Rear end gear grinding
Hey guys i was driving up a steep incline at my school and then while making a right turn into the parking garage (which is also a steep incline and smooth surface) my car wouldnt go up the hill...it just would rev and the wheels wouldn't spin and it was making a weird grinding noise. i put it in reverse and then drive again and gave it some more gas and it finally went up. the traction light came on and it sounded like the gears were grinding or something when i finally made it up the parking garage entrance. Is this normal and just the traction control kicking in?

The traction control doesn't make grinding noises, it typically makes no noise at all.
It sounds like there is a potential problem in the works with your automatic transmission, I would get it checked out. |
the noise didnt sound like it was coming from the transmission. It felt like it was coming from the rear end. Could it have been the posi transferring more power to the outer wheel?
|
Nope. I've never heard such a noise and I guarantee you would have seen a 1,000+ post thread about this by now if they all did it. Maybe your rear diff has an oil leak or other issue.

The only noise I've heard out of these units in faint clicking of the axle shafts, but this had no effect on drivability. |
