I have been browsing Utube videos about the 370Z. Most are negative; complaining about clutch failures, steering lock, axle bearings and bushings, oil consumption, paint, and on and on. If you are to believe what is being said you would never buy one and get rid of it if you already had one.
My wife has a 2011 370z that she uses a daily driver. It has 70,000 miles and had not given us any problems. It gets 24-25 mpg and uses no oil between changes. The only complaint is that tires last only 30-34,000 miles.
What has your experience been? Is is going to implode soon? From the videos, it appears that they have all been abused.

I’ve had a 2011 Z since new. Over 100K miles. Nothing major - steering rack under warranty at 80K. I abuse the shít outta mine. I can’t seem to get more than about 10K street miles on a set of rear tires :driving:

2013 since new w/38,000 & :driving:like it should be driven, hard but not abused w/ excellent maintenance, flawless! One trip to the dealer for TCM reset.
It would have twice the mileage on it but, it’s stored for the winter

Find me any Vehicle without any negative reviews.... Heck, find me anything online without any negative reviews...

FYI, 370z's engine, chassis, suspension components, infotainment system...are all shared with G37 coupe and sedans, the FX37/QX70, and the M37/Q70. There are plenty of them running around as daily drivers, plenty reliable.

In a world where I really have heard people said "My Audi/Bimmer/Benz has been a rock solid, hasn't let me down yet...It's a 2020 15k miles, starts every morning, blah blah".... same people that also know better, surely to rid of the said car during the last leg of the factory warranties...


My 2010 G sedan, stock 7at, bought in 2012 @ 18k miles. Only "problems" I've had were:

- 35k miles: Idle wouldn't hold, engine would die, remedied by cleaning the throttle bodies. Rear diff bushing blown, replaced with Whiteline.

- 72k miles (now): noticed some wetness at the bottom of the steering rack, not enough to form drips yet. One of the pulleys is making some noise on cold damp mornings.

So it's worked faithfully during my ownership.

Beat on it, slam gears, kicking clutches, things wear out quick and those 2nd/3rd/4th hand owners that are barely older than the car itself will cry foul.

Thanks for your thoughtful responses. It probably doesn't matter what I think; my wife is not going to part with her 370Z. Since we met, she chooses her cars carefully and then keeps them for about15 years. (We should have gotten rid of her RX7 at 14 years, before things started to fail.)
My only concern is that it could let her down at a inconvenient time. (Isn't any tine inconvenient?)

I’ve had my Z 4 years (2015 MY) which has had the typical issues accelerated by track use. CSC failure, replaced with CMAK from Zspeed. Oil temp issues rectified (mostly) with an oil cooler. Rear differential bushing popped, swapped in a new piece from Z1.

Car has 52k miles on it and sees track duty 1-5x/year. Seems to have held up well so far. I have not had any steering lock issues, but supposedly rectified post-2012?

Like others have said - every sports car has their issues and you won’t find a YouTube review that doesn’t bring up the good with the bad. For instance - Savage Geese winded up buying a GT86 brand new so they can show how true ownership is; and already they are talking about the hood flutter and some creaks already but have discussed how much they enjoy it. I guess in the end as long as you maintain it - don’t abuse it the car should last a long time.

Only had mine for 6 months, got it with around 60K miles on it, so far the only thing that's ever been ranted about in reviews that I've noticed is the slow throttle response (which was EASILY nullified with a half decent tune) and my oil consumption isn't the best (right about due for an oil change after about 4K miles, albeit with lots of spirited driving inbetween). Granted, I'm in an auto trans so I don't have the CSC failure issue, but I can report that the auto transmission is very reliable and excellent with a tune as long as you aren't going above 390-400 torque.

As far as I know most of the major issues reviews complain about frequently were nullified or solved for the 2013+ model years save for the CSC and the oil temp issues (the oil cooler they added really isn't that good but is better than nothing)

Why did the TCM have to be reset?

I'm a professional technician and have been so for 9 years. I have worked for Mercedes Benz, done fleet maintenance for FedEx express, and I have most of my time with Ford.

When it comes to failures such as engines for example it's because of neglect. People think all they have to do is put gas in the car and that they don't need to change fluids and filters. I don't know how many times I have seen people crying for their engine to be covered under warranty when they have only done 3 oil changes in 50k miles. The oil is burnt to hell. People are just cheap too and they don't do the maintenance but yet have a boat they take to Havasu and have the Gucci purse.

People always complain about their car and or truck being a piece of **** but they don't take care of the car maintenance wise, their vehicle looks like a pig pen inside and it looks like it's never been washed.

Now, some brands are better than others. Don't listen to negative reviews because if you did you would never buy any product. People are always quick to complain, but, never talk about the positives. My Z and my previous car which was a G35 coupe were solid but they weren't perfect. Nothing is.

I have a 2009 Z with 160k kms / 100k miles. My steering lock did fail around 110k kms but was replaced under recall for free. Other than that, no issues what so ever. I did replace a front hub at about 150k kms and I think the other side is going now to. I will change that this summer. I drive my car pretty hard and it can take it. Lots of life left in this car.

Tech said an update was needed. That was over 3 years ago and no issues since. There wasn’t an issue to begin with other than the ses light came on.

Gotcha, they said mine was updated already but it shifted much better after receiving it back. It started shifting hard into 4th again shortly thereafter. :shakes head: I wish I knew what they did and could replicate it.
