Granted the Z has handled the Mustang in all tests I have seen but give the Mustang another 100 hp and it could be interesting. The 'stang will never out handle the Z but with the additional 100 hp and a motor that is easy and cheap to mod might make things more interesting...Like the Mustang or not, the competition of more hp might find its way into the Z.
2011 Mustang is suppose to come with a track pack like setup standard across the board. This will help with keeping up with the Z in stock form but a slightly bit behind, now the extra power might be enough not to matter.

I'm with Old Chuck! That's kind of funny to say. Old Chuck. Good name. Anyway, Mustangs are designed to be modified. I forgot what the exact statistic was, but it was over 50% of Mustang owners mod. I also heard that new Coyote 5.0L can handle ridiculous amounts of power, right from the factory. I like the looks of the Shelby, but 60k is a little much. Throw on a Supercharger, upgrade the brakes yourself and... VROOOM! Monster! Good for Ford!

I don't know what comparative tests you were reading but most of the major car magazine comparison tests were for the most part so close that many of the car magazines considered the Z and Mustang to be pretty darn near equal.

I had a Shelby GT (not the GT350 or GT500) that could hand a 370Z's azz on a platter on a slalom course. And with a driver who knows what he is doing on a straight-line, either car could win on any given run. And since I owned both cars at one time (Shelby GT 47000 miles, 370Z 9600 miles) I should know as I drove them alot more miles than a weekend warrior car magazine editor.

Granted the Shelby GT isn't stock from a suspension standpoint but just about everything else is compared to a Ford production Mustang.

So again I don't know what you are reading when referring to when you say "The 'stang will never out handle the Z". I had one that did.

There isn't any power difference between the stock 370Z and the Mustang when measuring at the wheels. The stock Mustang makes less crank HP than the 370Z (319 to 332 respectively) but at the wheels they are about equal in stock configuration. The Z uses up more HP to overcome its drive train friction than the Mustang does.

Its the weight difference between the cars that accounts of most of the miniscule differences identified in the comparisons....stock Mustangs weigh nearly 300 to 350 lbs more than a 370Z.

Meh, your best bet will always be to buy a stock GT and go from there. The Steeda/Roush/Saleen/Shelby/Etc. cars are always overpriced and the names really don't mean anything.

While I might just agree with you on the "large riced-out" wings out there, this is a Z. Not an Accord or a "Musteng". Nissan did a pretty good job with their wing for the sport edition. The Nismo is another story.

Looks like every other mustang to me. And for that price, I'd get an M3.

I will defer to your experience with both cars. You are right. I was referring to articles in magazines not actual experience. In most of those, the Z comes out best in the handling department but even then, it is a close call. I have driven the Z and current mustang but would like to play with the new 5.0 when they come out. I too, know folks who track their mustangs and they say that a whole bunch can be done even with the live rear end. Most say the same thing which is a mustang can be made to handle very well. All in all, I think the competiton is good both for the Z and the mustang. Being old, I remember my '66 mustang fondly but a 2011 with the 5.0 at safe low boost to about 500 hp for around 40 grand is not a bad thought.....

I assume the new 2011 GT with 412 hp will not jump much in price over the current GT (base price currently around 32K). The Z is the handling king for the money, the mustang will be the power king for the money next year.

I like this Mustang. I've never been slightly interested in the Mustang..except the Roushe, of course. But I'm really diggin the center exhaust. What everyone needs to remember is times are changing..as will the cars. And thats actually not a bad look considering the flow of the rear bumper. I'm still all Z tho

No thanks, love the concept, hate the result.

Too much money, by far.
Ugly rear end all together, especially after the model change. Are those reverse lights randomly in the bumper?
That lip spoiler looks pointless.
WTF with the interior? Those seats actually look uncomfortable. Why do the speakers protrude from the door?
The A-Pillar gauge pod? Couldn't do anything in the middle of that plain, flat dash?

/rant

I do like the front end though, about the front half of the car (on the outside.)
