Fast or Quick
I decided to create this thread - part of it under the influence of whiskey and splash of sprite and the other part of it to ask the opinion of would you rather a quick car (such as the 370z tuned) or a fast car like a Supra. The reason why I bring this up - is that when you think about it - fun and quick/fast > than fast and boring. I can’t tell how many times I have told my sis - this car is faster than the 370z but….you are hitting illegal speeds in 2nd gear which tells me - while it’s faster - its not fun.
So the question I ask - do you take a fun car over a fast car - and do you consider the Z a fast car? Just my .02 - there seems to be the situation where you go ‘basic full bolt-on’ like intakes, exhaust and HFCs along with a tune - gets you around 320WHP - or do you spend a lot of money on the Z to compete with current modded cars like the Supra, Mustangs and Camaros - are…..do you care about all that and look at the ‘fun’ factor? Reason why I ask - Z is fun and puts a smile on my face - have HFCs, exhaust and intakes and a tune - but….it’s not Supra fast - does it need to be - I don’t know bc I live the idea of rowing my gears and enjoying the ride. Again - whiskey post …..but….wondering what others think - bc my Z still is clean and gets a lot of looks….vs getting V8 power and blending in with the rest of the block. Not sure how I feel about that. |

I'd argue the Z is more quick than fast. Especially considering the power levels of sports cars these days. The Z is inherently better at catching cars in the corners than on the straights (except for miatas lol).

I'll have to go with fun. But fast can be fun and quick can be fun - just depends on what mood I'm in.

Quick, and fun to drive.... fast depends on your definition of fast....
the VQ engine, is great, has plenty of toque, which makes it fun to drive....

It's more fun to go fast in a slow car, then to go slow in a fast car. Old track saying.

I agree with much of what has already been said. There are several cars out there that are faster than the Z and I've driven quite a few, but they don't do for me what the Z does for me. The fun factor coupled with styling and a long standing legacy are priceless. EVERY time I get into my Z my inner child comes alive and EVERY time I leave it, I look back because I'm sad to part from it for a time. It's like unwrapping a much desired present at Christmas all over again. That's how you know you're in the right car for you. Some of my friends think I'm crazy for it, but I've chalked it up to them simply not understanding, and that's ok. That's why I have my Z fam right here! I also think the Z is more accessible for personalization. For many of these faster cars, by the time you go through the purchase process, many (myself included) would not have the finances or desire to mod the car. With the Z more modifications are within financial reach because the initial price point is not astronomical. So that's my own 2 cents. I much rather my fun and quick Z over a fast illegal rocket.

I’m one of those types of people that I am always looking for the next best thing and then when I do trade it in for that ride - I always have a sense of regret. And in the back of my head - I know I will regret trading in the Z - especially now that they no longer make them; as well as I don’t see very many Z’s and in particular the Nismo where I live. Sooo….guess I’ll be keeping the Z and maybe try to save and find a nice 2nd car that doesn’t break the bank. |

Depends what you define as fast honestly. To some a 10.8 is slow whereas a conservative 13.1 may be too much (1/4) lol. There is ALWAYS something faster, just make sure you get something that will satisfy your driving needs. Personally I look at is it quick being barebones stock because with enough money anything can be fast

0-60 around 5 seconds is the sweet spot. Slower and it is too slow lol. Faster, and it's over too quick. In other areas of life, being over too quick is NOT a good thing... |

I've owned two NA and one NB Miata. They weren't quick off the line, but they were a lot of fun to throw around due to their low weight. In that case, it was fun > fast. Now, the Z-R, even with the AT, brings the fun and fast together into a nice package. Fun + fast = fantastic!
Honestly, anything faster than the Z would be detrimental to my driving record.

To me, "fast"=top speed, "quick"=acceleration rate. A car that can reach 150mph might be considered fast, even if it takes awhile to achieve it, while a car that can go 0 to 60 in 4 seconds might be considered quick, even if it's top speed is only 100mph.

I prefer getting off the line quick and having buckets of low end torque, but I have no interest in reaching top speeds.
I like the responsiveness of having horsepower and torque, not so much the ability to go 195mph Last edited by Vectorfire; 07-26-2021 at 02:22 PM. |
