Looks like your oil was changed, buddy. I think they may have left some residual old oil that has it a tad darker than truly fresh oil. No need to keep worrying. That stuff looks fine.

Here's a thread dedicated to this topic http://www.the370z.com/nissan-370z-g...html#post56862.

You don't need ester oil.

Unless you plan on draining your oil on the ground with nothing to catch it, you'll need to lift the car some. You can however, get your arm under there with a big fat marker or a file and mark the filter in some way.

My comment was for marking the filter to ensure that it was changed.

Sorry! But you are Wrong!

Telling people that "You don't need ester oil" when that's what's in the car from the start. is going off base, you could of mentioned that you can use other similar oils like xyz. I have used ester oil and continue to use like many in here!

Ok, lets keep this thread on topic. Feel free to discuss ester topic in the thread specified above.

NO WHERE in the owners manual Nissan REQUIRED 370Z to get ester oil. Therefore, ANY API certified oil is good enough for the z. Use of the Ester oil is ONLY recommendation .

Last year, when I was getting my first oil change at the dealer (had 2000 miles on the car), I asked my dealer service adviser, "What if I were to bring this car in for an oil change, what oil would you guys use?". His answer was, "We will change the oil with regular API certified 5w30. If you DO want to pay the extra money, we can use the ester oil but it's not required."

On the other hand, I can't believe I just replied to an oil topic :wtf2:

Dude.....that last picture of your oil, I can see through that oil. That is NOT dark by any means. Dark means black and opague. That's red and semi-transparent. That looks like your oil was changed but they may have left the old oil filter on.

:iagree: with both spear and Zkindaguy. Your oil has been changed. If it wasn't , it'll be significantly darker. I think we can put this one to rest.

Enjoy driving the Z.:driving:

I wish I could agree but 5qts of oil plus some residual(I would be surprised if 1/4 of a bottle could be collected from residual) would not turn 5 qts that dark. But I'm open to any ideas. I'm not concerned about the engine at all, its the principle.

BTW -- It also looks as if they might have overfilled.

You know, more ppl should change there own oil to begin with. Not only does it teach you more about your car, but have more pride in what you drive.

Id never take my car to a stealership to have oil changed.

Its so freaking easy! I was changing my dads oil on his 92 dodge dakota when i was 10 years old.

Come on guys, learn how to do this!

IMHO your oil was changed. Used to work in a garage eons ago in high school and probably did several thousand oil changes and that's new oil.

That said, my wife took her A3 to the Audi dealer for oil change. They called back to say her tires were over-inflated and the tires were feathered (they were real noisy). She told them that, while she knows how to put air in tires, they (the dealer) were the only people who ever touched the car...they hemmed and hawed but didn't replace the tires...

Then about a week later her oil light comes on...she pulls into the nearest Valvoline and the pull the dipstick and it's dry. Completely.

Needless to say Audi corporate got a nasty phone call. Dealers generally suck.
