Default A Brain Fart...

Got gas today and pumped about 10 gallons of regular (89) octane into MZ DAIZY Before I realized I pushed the wrong button on the pump. She’s been tuned for 93 octane. I figure there’s a mix of about 4 gallons of 93 to 10 gallons of 89. What should be my plan of action and how bad a F-UP is this?

It's not bad. You're not pushing boost. When you get down to 3/4 tank. Top it off again. Do this about 2 times. Don't run it hard until after the 3th time.

Thanks Rusty.. got so much going on in my mind with an elderly dementia parent. I scare myself sometimes... My wife tried to make me feel better by telling me that at least I didn’t pump diesel in her. That’s what she said! LOL. I’m preaching to the choir, but getting old ain’t for sissies... I’m walking into rooms and wondering the the eff I came into here for... sometimes the bathroom!

Thanks for the help!

As per Rusty, it's not that big of a deal. After a few fillups, you should be good to go. If you notice any knock/ping, let off the accelerator pedal until it goes away.

My buddy put diesel in his Harley one time and tried to start it. It was ugly. Called someone to pick the bike up at the station. They loaded it on a flat bed. On the way to the dealership. The bike fell over.

Would adding a bottle of octane booster help raise the numbers and possibly make it easer on the motor?

I was wondering about octane booster, too.
Assuming the 14 gallons gave you a full 19 gallon tank, and the prior tank was 93 octane, the math puts you just under 91 octane for the tank full. Just go easy on her, and she'll be fine.

Burn it off.

You could use octane booster. Just cost you more.

My wife's aunt put diesel at her first fill up of her brand new Lexus several years ago. THAT was a problem.

I agree with others. Keep adding the right stuff frequently until all the cheap stuff is gone. Don't push it hard during the interim and you should be fine.

No worries, here I’ll tell you a story to help you feel a lot better...

Back around 2010 or so with our first nismo, wifey and I wanted to get a pre up rev tune dyno so we could compare before and after, the car had FI lth’s, FI cbe, cai.

We got to our shop for the dyno, decided to fill up beforehand since we were down below a 1/4 tank. Accidentally filled up with 87 octane since we hadn’t driven the z in a while and were used to filling up the dd.

Got to the shop, told them what happened, was expecting to reschedule but we decided to just pour in some octane booster, iirc it was race gas octane booster.

We dynoed, no pinging or knock, and the z put down 321 whp in 5th gear.

Car went on to be thrashed on the track for the next 3 years no problem.

You’ll be fine.
