Looks like they probably knew, but deliberately fudged it. lol the headlights are literally placed on sideways.

Obviously, renderings are top secret until the car is released. The media's job is to guess and come as close as possible. This sample is a grade school project.
SoCal members who did a canyon with the designer of the z34 received signed copies of his renderings. Definitely far from that one.

The headlights and fangs were pretty close to actual production, especially if done off of an informants memory.

The rear side window looks more like a shrunken G35 coupe window though.
