370Z Blind Spots
Any suggestions on how to fix blind spots? I use the mirrors and I look before changing lines. I almost ran into another vehicle as I was changing lanes.
|
I suggest you buy those small dome mirrors. I use that on my fiancee's tC (blind spot an issue on that car as well - driver side) and it helps alot. I take a peek on the mirror, then on the dome and then I look back. Once you get used to it, it becomes second nature.

I'm guess this is the wrong section for this topic, but I'll chime in anyways.
Has anyone found a use for the rear side windows? During my test drive, it seemed that the passenger's headrest always blocked the window and made it really hard for me to see that corner of the car. The window on my side wasn't any better haha. |
Fish-eye mirrors! My 2002 Trans Am had the same problem. (HUGE sail panels)
The fish-eye mirrors were so good that eventually I stopped using the rest of the side mirrors and just used the fish-eyes. Good stuff, and I'll never go back. |

Safety Tip: Put the dome/fish eye mirror on the "car body side " of your regular mirror! It easier and faster to look at it there,"plus your eyes aren't taken off the road as much".
|
I just turn on my turn signals, and eventually move into the other lane. Anyone still sitting next to me deserves to get run off the road for not letting me over. :icon17:

I had a GT fierro I installed airhorns installed. The loudest horn many ever heard, coming out of the smallest car many ever saw.

LaneFX® Interactive Demo - Test Drive the Award-Winning Blind Spot Mirror & Lane Change Technology for Safer Commutes Adjust the driver side mirror by placing your left ear against the window glass and then adjusting the view so you can "just" see the left side of the car in the mirror. Adjust the passenger side mirror by moving your head to the middle of the car (over the console) and then adjust the same. No, you will not be able to see the sides of the car from the driver's position, but you will be able to see more of the adjacent lanes alongside your car. |
You can also adjust mirror(s) while parked. It should not be a problem finding roads with parking along the right side, but for the left side, your best bet is finding a one way road. For either side, preferably, there should be no car parked right behind you.
This gives you a chance to get used to the view(s) in combination with the rear view mirror. For proper mirror positioning without overlap, as soon as the car is no longer in view of the rear view mirror, you should see it in the side view mirror. |

why not just take a quick glance to the sides before you turn?, this is what i do because no matter what kind of mirror you have, it wont show everything.
The quick glance to the side rear doesn't even take more than 1 sec, and I find that the surest way to turn into the different lane without bumping into someone else... |

On the immigration topic, I actually disagree. I won't generalize a group of people like that. I will say that I've seen both sides of the fence. My ex-girlfriend's family was illegal until she was born here. Although they still go back and forth to El Salvador, they don't act out of control. In fact, she and her sister don't act as if the parents EVER didn't have control over them. I have a lot of friends that came from south of the border, and none of them have that problem.
On the other hand, I DO see a lot of the times a family that seems "FOB" come into stores with wild children and they're tearing the place UP! I think it's no different from any family where the parents just don't give a crap about the kids, no matter what race they are. I love Latinas the most, so I've spent a lot of time with the families. I've dated white girls, black girls, Asian girls, Latin girls of all sorts. Out of all of my experiences, the worst was with the white girls. The parents couldn't care less about what their daughters did. In one instance, I went to this one girls house, and made my decision to run for the hills because I saw how trashy they were and just couldn't believe my eyes. I was raised with dignity and pride. I nearly lost it all just walking into that house! |

On the side mirrors where is the best place to place them? Inner or the outer side of the mirror?

I've done both. My Formula was on the inner side and the Trans Am was on the outer side. The outer side was the best.
In fact, there was BETTER visibility on both mirrors going from the outer side. I don't know what I was thinking the first time. But I won't ever put them on the inner side ever again. Further out, the better. |
I have never used one of those dome mirrors it's not hard to get into a lane where i live cause there are no cars driving near me
they stay 20 feet back |
Lucky... People here in Los Angeles like to be in your blind spot on purpose. No joke.
If you even turn your turn-signals on, they'll speed up just to prevent you from changing lanes. I honestly wish that was a joke or an exaggeration. |
I also put it on the lower outer edge. But here's an idea -- take a piece of scotch tape, fold it over on itself so that it's double sided, and experiment. Stick it on the outside, get in your car and look at it to see how it looks. Pull it off and stick it back on the inner side and repeat. Then when you decide where it suits you the best, you can remove the permanent backing and apply.

Well, if you are having problems with vision and changing lanes, I would surmise your mirror are angled inappropriately. There is no reason you should not be able to see a car that is either behind you or next to you with the mirrors angled properly. Most people use their side view mirrors as rear view mirrors. (it isn't like a car is going to pop out of the rear of your car... :D) That is- they have them aimed at the rear corners of the car like that is an area that one can't see from the .... oh I dunno.... REAR view mirror. If you use your side view mirrors and angle them towards the side of the vehicle, you will eliminate this. I will try to give you an idea of how I have my mirrors set up.
- My rear view mirror shows me everything that is behind my car. - As something passes out of the field of my rear view mirror, it passes into the field of the side view mirrors. - As something passes out of the field of the side view mirrors, it passes into my personal field of peripheral vision. In my opinion, you should NOT be able to see the side of your car in your side view mirror. If you can, you are not utilizing your mirrors fully. Why look at the side of your own car as you are traveling when it benefits much more to look at what is adjacent to you? For most people, this may seem odd, but I found that setting up my mirrors like that effectively removed the blind spot from my vehicle. |
I disagree... Unless you have one of those old style mirrors that go all the way across your windshield, and you have GIANT side mirrors that stick out 6 inches from the door, you CANNOT cover all the blind spots. Please do not drive around me.
As much as all my mirrors cover, I will not trust that I'm seeing everything. |
The blind spot, particularly on the driver's side is very bad in the 370Z - I got spoiled in my 350ZR as there was no blind spot at all! :)
While I haven't gone out and bought one yet, I'm going to buy a small dome/fish-eye mirror to put on the driver's side to help...other than that, the only thing you can do is to be very aware of the traffic around you before changing lanes...you just kind of have to assume there is a car in your blind spot until you prove otherwise! |
