I have owned the q50 red sport before the 370z. The two cars are completely
Different in every way. The q50 was confused it didn’t know what it wanted to be. It was fast but didn’t feel fast, it was sporty but most times felt like a sonata, it wanted to be luxurious but was overmatched by cars like the maxima. The 370z is what it is a sports car, may not be the best sports car but none the less it is one. I find it hard to understand how Nissan plans to awaken such a boring engine |

This is happening to most engines as manufacturers downsize and turbocharge. Just ask the Ferrari guys what they think of the 458 NA engine compared to the 488 Turbo. No comparison. The 458 engine sounds 100 times better. There has actually been a spike in 458 values due to engine sound alone. Everyone now prefers to own a used 458 vs a new 488 regardless of which one is faster.
Bottom line is that it's very difficult for a Turbo charged engine to sound better than a NA engine in most situations. It takes a lot of sound enhancements to achieve an equally good sounding turbo engine. PS:I can completely relate to some feeling the VQ37 sounds and acts sort of like a motorcycle engine. I love cafe-racer type motorcycles and it's what made me fall in love with my Nismo after my test drive. Sort of sounded like and felt like Desmodromic valve engine that Ducati would have built if they were into cars.

I thought he was referring to the exhaust sound at first, but the 370z exhaust sound is disappointing as compared to the 350z's. As for as the engine sound, I wasn't too excited about it as well, especially at higher RPM, the engine just sounds/feels harsh. I personally like that engine sound of my e46 M3 at high rpm better and it is silky smooth.
