Owned property is either an asset or a liability. Vehicles are always a liability with the exception of very few makes and models over the years. One can invest in a vehicle and get value out of it, but the vehicle is still a liability in a financial sense.

On a personal level, I suppose it could be an investment towards your happiness, but this isn't going to create net worth.

Do whatever is best for you and your budget. If you want to mod it go for it but do not expect any gains $$ wise from the mods you put in it. I hear you on the 2 year plan and if modding the car makes you happy then go for it but expect no returns on your investment.
Most of the folks that post on this forum have owned their Zs for years...hell I have owned mine for 8+ years now not that I post much=). (think I just showed my age there) Everyone here just wants you to be a happy Z owner and offer their insight. Go drive the damn thing and enjoy it!!! Latt |

This is my 3rd 370Z and I’ve never loved a car more than our Z’s, for sure. I “plan” on only keeping it for 2 years but I’ve never had one for more than a year but this one I plan to mod and make my own. I do want it to keep value but in all honestly, who knows. I may dump a lot of money into this one and make it custom to my liking and keep it til it dies. I can’t say what the future holds but I’m having hella fun driving it fully stock right now. I don’t work so I try and find something I should do every day just so I can go take her out for a little daily drive

Did you pay cash for it? Or,you are always in debt with a car payment. Maybe its me,seems being out of debit as much as possible makes sense in today's crazy world. Just sayin. |

My bet is 76.
He said he's been driving over 60 years, so we will just say 61 years. Assuming he's been in FL his entire life, he would have been able to get his permit at 15.

Japanese Model Quirks I feel here in the USA and Canada, because you automatically get a spoiler on the higher trim levels we equate spoiler=better. But in Japan, due to their proximity to the factory where all Zs are produced on customer order, it kind of proves how having a spoiler=different, and not necessarily better or higher end. This is a really minor point but it's a detail worth mentioning; during production for the builds that will be getting a spoiler installed at the factory, I would assume they are drilling the holes in the hatch before the car gets dunked in the electrocoating bath and painted. In contrast, even if you get an OEM spoiler installed at a dealership, you are going to have the bare steel exposed at the edges of the holes and you have to count on the quality (or even if) they apply any corrosion protection such as silicon. It's just not going to be as ideal as the factory electrocoating and paint perfectly wrapping around the edges of all eleven of the holes they will be drilling into your hatch at the dealership. Wow, I hope I am as cool as you when I am 76
Sadly, it doesn't look like I won't be able to buy a brand new ICE sports car when I am your age. I don't want to get into politics here, but depending on the outcome of the US election, it is increasingly likely that the rest of the US will follow California's 2035 ICE ban. With the US and Euro market gone, the next generation of Z (and other ICE sports cars will be the last). With this new reality, its no longer about selling your existing vehicle to buy the latest and greatest. There won't be anymore latest and greatest (unless you like the silent soulless acceleration of electric). I think I am going to have to stockpile a couple of ICE sports cars to last me until I am your age. I will not be selling my 370Z for the new Z, I will buy the new Z to go along with my existing one and hopefully one more sports car if my finances allow in the next decade and a half before the end of ICE sales to last me for the next 50 years or so until I pass.
