That cracked me up. Yeah, most of us aren't 17 year olds anymore.

Brag worthy? Well let's see.

Our CSCs for manuals are doo doo and fail
No oil coolers on models before 2012, even then the factory coolers are doo doo
The car has a steering wheel lock that protects itself even from the owner, it's like a modern day chastity belt

All jokes aside, I just like the car for what it is. A 6 speed N/A Japs sport car that I can get a jack under and work on without worrying too much. These days that is TOO much to ask for.

“Bragging” wasn’t the best choice of words. This is my first (and probably last) car of this caliber. I’ve never been a gear head but still like to know how things work. I’m trying to put together in my mind the niceties/uniqueness of this car. Call it Z Appreciation. Thoughts during the long drives.

the best part about the Z is probably that it IS NOT special or unique

no hybrid tech in the engine
no fancy triple clutch self shifting transmission
no carbon fiber body
no ipad built into the dash

it is relatively compact (by modern standards), RWD, and comes with a manual transmission, a combination that is increasingly rare

the Z was never designed to be the most cutting edge sports car, its a mass production car that sits at the bottom of the sports car range for Nissan (the other being the GTR at the top)

if anything, it's a good platform to start modifying

its nothing special at all in stock form. it has numerous deficiencies, actually, like overall weight, the clutch slave cyl, the engine, and lack of adjustment in the front suspension

however

it's a great looking car
you can fit badass wheels
its 10 years old so nearly any part is available for it relatively easily
most problems are known and fixable

From what I've read the Akebono's perform better than the Brembo's on the 350.

I'm not in the Z for anything sensational. I feel it's a bargain good handling car with enough power for fun when buying used. Bought mine for $15k at 5 yrs old with 72k on the clock and enjoy it immensely. Not to mention they're rarely seen in my area, hell even when I travel hours from home. Went to an IMSA race at Sebring yesterday and didn't see one!! I prefer not having the same vehicle as everyone else.

Bragging rights are that you can beat every 'normal' coupe/sedan/truck on the road. You can also beat most 4 cylinder turbo vehicles (Beat my buddy's manual Focus ST no problem). Nowadays there are some random cars/trucks that can beat our car, but most of those are high trim level - 50-60,000 dollar vehicles. Versus modern V8 cars, we will get smoked in a straight line. That said, it seems like a lot of people are replying to this suggesting we have a totally average/boring/old sports car. It is still a really high performing vehicle compared to your average car on the road, and has a lot of style aesthetically. It is a cool car, just not 'modern' (Could be considered a good thing - I don't need a switch for 5 different exhaust notes, light-up cup holders, or some crazy infotainment system like modern sports cars have, who cares.)

I like the 370Z because it is very rare here in SE Michigan. I also like it because of the aesthetics and because back in 1973 a rich guy in college had a new 240z and gave me a ride. At that point I vowed to get one when I could. That turned out to be 45 years later, after putting three kids through school and many other expenses. Now that I am in my 60's I have two (manual and an auto) and alternate them every summer. It's interesting that I notice many people here looking at it and many ask me about it.
