Did not adjust his speed till it was too late. Looks like his skill level was not enough for the R8 and should stick to his day job, imo.

:iagree:

He won't do that again!

Zsteve 01-18-2010 03:51 PM

look out for that..............

wall.

I think he was george of the jungle in that vid.

shabarivas 01-18-2010 04:02 PM

totally sucks man... I would not want to get in that guys way after that ... but thats why you dont drive on a track looking at the tail-lights ahead but instead at your speedo... he could have saved it from hitting the wall... he just held the steer and let it happen...

Love the 3rd person yelling at himself tho

I had a fetish with track day crashes a little while back and posted this one in another thread about VIR crashes. This guy is famous for that wreck...the most recent Car and Driver (Lightning Lap) refers to this very accident.

vipor 01-18-2010 04:07 PM

yeah you shouldn't be doing that in an r8 unless you can afford another r8 lol.

blue660r01 01-18-2010 04:10 PM

lmfao

STItoEVOX 01-18-2010 04:13 PM

i wouldnt say i feel bad for the guy. if he can afford to buy and track an R8 then things could be worse.

I guess feeling sorry isnt exactly what i mean. Its like the video really helps you to feel some of his pain and anguish.

KillerBee370 01-18-2010 04:45 PM

Just came back from the track yesterday.

Rule #1.
Don't take your car to the track unless you are willing to accept that it can get totalled.

Nobody is forcing anyone to run their car at the track. He knew the risks going in. If he was not 100% ready to lose his car altogether, then he shouldn't have gone. The only thing that should be on his mind is his health in the even that he crashes.

This is my attitude when I hit the track. Every time.

Trips 01-18-2010 04:49 PM

Well Killer! they didn't pass those kind words of Wisdom, to the guy in the Vid :bowrofl::roflpuke2:

I would argue that some people can afford to buy one but not neccissarily afford to "track" it. If this was his dd, then he was a fool to bring it to the track in the first place.

IDZRVIT 01-18-2010 05:03 PM

"You pay your money and take your chances."

Gee, no sympathy here either!

STItoEVOX 01-18-2010 05:17 PM

haha geeze guys take it easy. i know what you mean OP, i also felt his pain. what hurts for us regular guys at that moment also hurts those ballers. its just probly gonna wear off faster for this guy.

jmlenz 01-18-2010 05:27 PM

any pics of the aftermath?

RCZ 01-18-2010 05:55 PM

How do you guys have no sympathy?? The guy is actually using his sports car for driving on the track and he clearly gives a crap about the car. Even pro's make mistakes and crash cars at times. Give the guy a break, I'm sure he's a car nut like any one of us....in fact that clown in the R8 gets more respect for going out there and screwing up than those who will never drive a sports car the way its meant to be driven. I'm saying that in good humor, not personally for anyone. Again, disclaimer: No offense to anyone, I'm just sayin'

Trips 01-18-2010 05:59 PM

No offense taken! His still an Idiot!

No no no... I'm not saying that I don't have sympathy for him.. I mean HELL... the guy just munched his R8!!! I would feel shtty after that too. All I'm saying is that based on the tone in his reaction, it doesn't seem that he should've taken it to the track that's all.

you know what, that is a very good point. thats one of the reasons i want to sell my evo, i will never truly take advantage of its performance.

much respect to the guy in the vid for taking a car that can perform to a track unlike 98% of other owners of cars in that league that barely drive it at all.

CBRich 01-18-2010 06:28 PM

The bottom line is that you have to be prepared for something like that at the track . . . but . . . it STILL sucks.

Are there any tracks in Hawaii? I've heard there is one on the big island. One would assume that there is one on Oahu since that place is pretty much urban sprawl like LA.

That's right! It's just a car.

Zeto 01-18-2010 07:24 PM

Subscribed so I can see it when I get home.

zmyride 01-18-2010 08:04 PM

Is it the driver that is bad or the car?

If its the driver, never put a Mustang/Camaro driver behind a Z or R8? :icon18:

370zdub 01-19-2010 12:41 AM

I would have been screaming the same thing even if i was fully prepared for a total loss. Its just natural to be mad when you munch something you enjoy..

Oh because he should have just laughed? Even people that are millionaires don't like to lose money.

1slow370 01-19-2010 05:54 AM

I think he should have kept it rolling through the tow coming and getting him. If i drove the tow truck it would have gone something along the lines of "u okay"-"yeah"-"wow u plowed that wall like a drunk girl that wore a miniskirt to prom"-lots of swearing

370Zsteve 01-19-2010 07:35 AM

So the guy scraped the side of his extremely expensive car.

Let me shed some crocodile tears, bwaaaah.

370Zsteve 01-19-2010 07:44 AM

This is the guy to feel sorry for

He might have not laughed... but I sure did. Lmao! I mean I really don't feel bad for the dude. He's chillin. He lives in a country that gave him opportunity and with drive, he afforded himself a audi R8. Unfortunately, not very skilled @ at it. But he will live. I have sympathy for those earthquake victims that lost whole families. Not some dude on a track.
Next time he won't make that mistake or he will realize he's just not built for the track. :)

TARDCORE 01-19-2010 10:32 AM

actually the interior unless its been modded look ugly from that view. This dude that own an R8 4.2 in Hemet, CA of all places (he owns this clothing store chain) put these ugly wheels on it and it looks terrible. And he acts like his 100k+ car is the fastest thing ever when you go down there and see tons of retired people driving C6 vettes around. Not to mention the Saboba Indian tribe with their 10k a month salaries they get... for free I might add.

So is it free or is it a salary?

I would have... hell.. life is too short. ppl that put too much importance on their car/s leave other areas of there life (usually the spouse area) hanging.

Remember pot heads, it's just a car. I do agree that millionairs don't like to lose money though. They are the usually the stingiest/cheapest ppl of all.

Yep. :) I know somebody who has millions in the bank and drives an old sh*t brown Camry, wears holey old clothes and resoles his shoes every year.

I also know somebody who is miserably working every hour they can find to pay off a new DB9 and extravagant lifestyle which they can barely afford. As long as they have the appearance of money, eh?

:rofl2:
