My Z has been up on HF jack stands for over a year. I put a floor jack under the car for support and was careful not to bump the car when I crawled underneath to check the model number. Even though mine weren't recalled, I don't trust them now lol

I didn't get my stands from HF but checked them anyway. Brands and model numbers are different. It gave me a good excuse to give them a thorough inspection. I discovered that I hadn't done the retaining tab on one of them properly and the post will fall out if you turn the stand upside down - will correct that before I use again.
Does anyone know what part(s) are causing the problem? As simple as a jackstand is, there's not too much that can go wrong.

Check the engagement on the pawl per BettyZ (Post #6).
FWIW, I never engage the retaining tab. I find it's easier to stack them for storage, which requires removing the inserts. Easy enough to avoid turning them upside down.

Ah. I missed that on my first read. Thanks.
Not something I'm really worried about (it doesn't affect the functioning of the stand) but it might save some sore toes down the line.

I've never engaged that tab either....actually I've never paid attention to that tab until reading JAR and SouthArk's comments....I just always assumed that I shouldn't hold it upside down lol.
#footinmymouth #selfincriminate #learnsomethingnew I never raise the inserts above the bottom height, I've never felt comfortable conceptually. Besides, my 6 tons (HF) is quite tall to start with, and the 3 tons (Craftsman) give ample of height for the simple things I do. I'll probably go for more reputable units , or at least something rated ridiculously more than my car, like 2 pairs of 12 tons , if I have to be entirely under the car for a long time.
