I sort of agree with Semtex here - I'm starting to think that SRM is a bit of a gimmick and I'll tell you why...
...just lately (because of the arrival of SRM) I've been more conscious of my gear changing actions. I've come to the conclusion that I actually don't need SRM, because I can actually change gear OK myself (without heel & toe). If I were on a track, racing people, I think it might be useful, but to be honest, I don't track my cars. In day-to-day driving I can beat anyone I choose to beat, without SRM. Just like Semtex I have nothing against SRM and I will use it if I get a 370Z, but let's not overrate it - it's a nice little gadget, nothing more.

I wonder if the purists back in the day said the same thing when synchronized gears first showed up..? "Damn new fangled carriages, back in my day we had to come to a complete stop to shift into first!!"
I've driven stick shifts all my life, I even took my first driver's test in a 1986 Isuzu Trooper with a 5 speed, and I've driven vintage VW Beetles with unsynchronized gears. To me this is just another incremental step foward in the technology of an automobile. The best part about it is that you can shut it off, and kick it old school, or drive with the help of the computer. To each their own just like Semtex says, personally I love it. |

I've grown to like the SRM feature. Almost every car I've owned has been a manual. I've been tracking cars for 20 years and this would have been nice to have had on numerous occasions. However, I will agree that for a street only car it may be a bit of icing.
I'll be at Mid-Ohio next month to see how it feels on the track.

just wanted to add that i know for a fact that that a beretta will fit in the glove box nicely, and the 1/2 drive breaker bar has a nice spot next to the driver-side console. Great security when i stay in Milwaukee or Chicago. Although the only time someone ever tried to car jack the Z (while i was in it) was at a gas station between Appleton and Green Bay(also know as B.F.E or the middle of nowhere) by three plaid wearing rednecks that pulled up in an 90's olds cutlass supreme. Shifted into reverse then started the car and might have driven over one of there feet. (Gun and B*tch be cool tool where added after that incident, they should be factory options IMO)

Oh he said glove box!! I missed that until I read your post, Red370. Okay, now it makes sense that he can fit a Beretta in there. I was thinking center console. Like you, that's where I keep a gun (currently a Ruger LCR).

Great review! In most repsects (although, I had never driven a Z car before the 370).

Nope, no ringing sound. But I've read that for a lot of people, it doesn't start until somewhere around 8k miles, and I'm at around 7500 right now. So it might be a case of no ringing sound yet. *Knocks on wood.*

Well, he did post that way back in January of 2009. This is a really, really old thread that somehow got resurrected from the dead. If you look at the dates on the posts on this page, the last post before this thread got bumped today was dated 3-19-2009.
