For the same reason that I wear my seatbelt. I don't expect to get in a wreck, but I wear my seatbelt just in case, because like it or not, wrecks happen. Likewise, I don't expect to ever get into a violent confrontation that would require the use of deadly force, but I carry a gun in the car (and on my person when out of the car) just in case. Because like it or not, violent crime happens. And in case you're wondering, yes, I have a concealed carry permit.
