Boosted or not
Hey everyone! Been lurking for a little while. Subjective of course, but I'm having a tough time of picking between a black single-turbo 2011 (super-minty) or an equally nice pearl white 16 Nismo with top-shelf suspension.
2011 - love the fact that it's already got a BP single turbo kit and a ton of other nice mods. Coilovers are mid-grade BC BR's, super low miles, drive ready. Con's I see is older car (value), stock OEM bumpers (non-Nismo), exhaust may be a little on the loud side (FI CBE with CF mufflers). 2016 - love the suspension set up (Motion Control Systems 2-way w/ remote reservoirs), billet UCA's, end links, camber arms, toe links, high-end paint correction and ceramic coating, oil cooler, (custom) exhaust, tech package so things like BT, nav (nice to have/not a must-have). Car will not be a DD...north GA mountains on nice weekends, MAYBE some track days, but otherwise a toy to take out when it's nice and I don't feel like riding a motorcycle... I'm not financing so I'm not looking at loan to value, but I am acutely aware that my track record for flipping cars (not necessarily at a profit :/ ) may allow greater investment recovery with the Nismo... So here's a question - the 2011 is modded and I'm confident that the work has been done exceptionally well. Would YOU buy a modded car assuming the same caveat or would you prefer to mod yourself? Just trying to consider re-sale down the road... Either way, I'm gonna have big fun - I live in the same town as Z1!:happydance: |
Even if done right.. a boosted Z's days are numbered. How long until you're dumping $8-10k into a new motor? If you want boost and you have an extra $10k laying around.. then you have yourself a super deal. Otherwise, pass and go with the Nismo. Just remember there's nothing like building a car yourself. Nobody will know it in and out better than you, and if something goes wrong then you can conveniently rely on yourself to fix it rather than a previous owner, provided they are cooperating. Good luck and have fun.
I used to live right by Z1.. now I live on the opposite side of the country.. Jealous! |
I'd get the Nismo

Safest bet is to get the Nismo and boost it yourself.

Really depends on the quality of the build on the 2011 and if it has the right supporting mods. I would have to inspect it myself. If you desire a boosted Z you better have the funds set aside and an replacement short block or long block on your engine stand in case catastrophic failure occurs. When done right a boosted set up on a Z can last for years and years to come if done correctly. A 2016 Nismo Z with suspension work done is always very nice. If you want a N/A set up you can’t go wrong with a Nismo Z. I don’t see anything wrong with purchasing a modded Z. Just make sure to inspect whatever Z you would like to purchase and talk to the owner of the Z you are interested in purchasing. Also you will have to test drive the Z as well.

Save up for a used GTR.

Def the Nismo. You have no idea what has or hadn't happened to the boosted Z.

Easy pick, the Nismo.
Unless you have a thorough background of the build, the shop, the usage history of the boosted car, and that you are extremely knowledgeable with this platform (diagnostic and wrenching yourself), I don’t think you should take on a Z that’s already boosted. |
