Default So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish

Over the weekend I traded in my 40th AE Z. I bought it used in 2013 with only 16,000 miles on it, and loved it deeply until last summer when I started having to take it to the shop every other month (seemingly) for pricey work -- nearly $9,000 in repairs since May, despite having less than 70,000 miles. I'd planned to drive it until it wouldn't go anymore, but last fall I decided I'd rather sell it while it was still running/had some value. The repeated wallet hits helped convince me that it was time. By Saturday I was ready to let it go, but still couldn't help but feel a little sad when I drove it for the last time.

Anyway, I didn't post here often, but this forum has been an invaluable source of info for the past six years. So, thanks to everyone.

Oh yeah: I got a 2020 BMW M240i. RWD, MT, with all of the features I wanted. And I got more for the Z in trade than I expected, which was very awesome.

Now I just have to find a BMW forum as useful as this one...

WOW! You probably had a Lemon, 370Z are great cars. I had a 2009 for 9 years without any issue than the usual …

I just sold my 2015 2 Series and shopping for a 370Z Nismo.

Good forum for 2 Series, https://www.2addicts.com/forums/

Good Luck

I'll check both of those out. There's a seemingly endless number of BMW forums out there; I'm sure finding the "right" one will take some trial and error.

As a long term BMW and Nissan owner, I hope you purchased the extended warranty for your M240i. It will save you a lot of money.

Any Nissan I have owned has cost MUCH less then any BMW I have owned.
I hope your experience is different.

I skipped the extended warranty, but did get the maintenance contract (all scheduled maintenance covered vs just oil changes). The two combined would have added almost $10K to the purchase price: because I was paying cash I just couldn't bring myself to get both, and the maintenance coverage seemed like a more immediate concern. I have 48 months/50,000 miles to not worry about anything, and then I'll see how things go...

By the way, you new motor (B58) has incredible specs:
• 11:1 compression
• up to 26 PSI boost
• variable valve timing
• variable valve lift
• variable oil pump volume
• 2 high pressure fuel pumps to deliver 5,000 PSI fuel pressure

And I think it is the same one used in the new BMW/Toyota Zupra

To be honest, I am a little envious!!

Sorry to hear you traded your Z in for a BMW. The only BMW worth it would be holding out for the new M3 or M4 if your pockets are deep enough. I highly disagree with you the Nissan 370Z is actually one of the most reliable/dependable sports cars currently in the vehicle market seeing that they are made in Japan it just screams quality, reliability, and dependability if you do all of your general maintenance that is. Also resale value on Nissan/Infiniti vehicles is one of the best as well. I wish you the best of luck with your new BMW I hope you can afford the BMW general maintenance schedule it is close to that of a trust fund baby. BMW parts and labor was always on the expensive side.

Congrats on your purchase, I hope you enjoy it has much as you did your Z.

Unfortunate you had a bad time with the car, Z's are reliable as hell and dependable as well. Do the CSC swap, get a oil cooler and remove the steering lock, after that it is regular maintenance for life.

BMW, or as I say "Bavarian Motor Waste" is a bleh company to me and has lost its way a long time ago. Regardless of what I or anyone else has to say, if YOU like the car that is ALL that matters. You enjoy it and be safe. You will always be welcomed here, with a Z or not.

I've owned 3 BMWs, a 2001 Z3, 2009 328i and a 2006 Z4. All three got into my wallet pretty deeply. You know that BMW means Break My Wallet. I've owned a 2009 Murano, currently own a 2017 Murano and a 2013 370Z and have a good appreciation for Nissan vehicles.
