(And by the looks of what you're driving, you've probably never driven one.)
better to have it and not need it,then to need it and not have.
if that makes sense!

Don't be so quick to judge because I have owned 3 Z's. A 260Z, 300Z and 350Z. My father has also owned a 240Z and 280Z and had a VW and later Datsun/Nissan dealership in McComb, MS. which is still in business.

I must not be like most Z owners in your estimation

The only reason I bought all my Z cars was for "its cornering and straight line speed" and ability to brake. I've driven one daily for thirty years. Looks are secondary, although never a hardship with a Z.
Nor have I had a ticket since 1986.

I'm getting the sport package for the LSD and the rear spoiler (looks). i didnt care much about anything else. Brakes are nice to have, wheels look better but i really only wanted the LSD. Im the stupid kid in closed parking lots drifing around light poles and what not. leagaly of course haha
but like most of the guys on here say its your choice. if you want eveything in the sport package get it,if you dont, dont. just my .02.. yes i basicly payed 3k for lsd and the spoiler but it came with other things so it was worth it to me. again my .02 i also am buying the car for its performance in a straight line and its handling, not for show.. well a little bc it is a HOT CAR!!

Hey if you have a place to take advantage of the speed, go for it. I realize there are different reasons for why we all buy the cars we buy. I'm sure I may be in the minority buying for looks. I would love to live in an area where I could take my Z on a track and have a little fun but I just can't here in South Mississippi.

Where I live you can't do jack without getting pulled over. I got pulled over 3 times the first year. Once for switching lanes without giving a damn signal on a 6 lane highway. Another time a highway patrolman pulled me over for speeding out of his jurisdiction and just lectured me then let me go.

My wife drives like a bat-out-of-hell in her Honda minivan and has never gotten pulled over. You are a marked man in a sports car where I live.

My thoughts on the sport package are:

I loved the wheels at first.. but now i find them less appealing. The LSD is a joke. The brakes need new pads, rotors, and lines(ask car and driver). The aero is more of an aesthetic thing, but i like the hatch spoiler (so i bought it). In my own opinion, the only thing worth a damn on the sport package is the SRM. I made a point to learn how to heel and toe with my Z, but i do wish i had it just to show off new technology in manual tranys.

Are you doing hot laps yourself or are you just blindly buying this gospel?
Yeah, certain parts of this car are not up to track duty, but that's an obvious given with most cars that start out designed for use on public roadways.
I personally have not exceeded the capabilities of the sport package brakes during my hooligan sessions. Take that FWIW.

notice how we don't have sport package badges on our cars. Maybe thats because unlike most other cars with 'sport packages' ours actually has significantly more features and doesn't need some stupid S

A "joke"? Bad brakes? Hmmm.... Why did you buy one then? If you're sooo concerned, then a little more upscale should have been your choice. Have you got the extra $20-40k?

Didn't think so....

yes, you'd wind up with a better car if you replaced the wheels, tires, calipers, rotors, pads, lines, and bought a better limited slip differential.= 10k+

or 3k for a sports package. i'm sold

If I had an extra 300K I'd be driving a 599GTO and bitching on that forum about how there's no soundproofing in the damn thing.

Or you could buy ten 370Z's and create ten individual topics bitching about high oil temps, the brakes, the paint, the doors, etc. We could certainly use a few more of those threads

Exactly how I feel.

If you aren't very into aftermarket modifications, I'd always go for sports in my vehicles. On the road, you are probably never going to be racing...but you will feel much happier knowing your car looks defined.

Gospel? lol C&D put a nismo in the wall at almost 100 mph.. This ISNT gospel.. The brakes need upgraded if you plan on tracking. And i track my cars and my motorcycles. Brakes are a very important part to safely participating on the track. If you want to risk your life so be it, otherwise i take it your not tracking the car. So you bought a Z to just daily drive, congrats.

I see your pushing your capabilities on public roadways, well in that case definitely do not upgrade brakes, being a hooligan with out them is safer no doubt.
