Gentlemen,

Change out your clutch pedal assembly for the RJMPerformance unit that is totally adjustable and can be installed by a DIYer in an hour. I put it in my 2016 Roadster myself. It will fix all of the shift issues you're experiencing.

You not only have a base model but also an automatic, so that significantly impairs your ability to control your car's shifting habits. Show up to a Nissan dealer in your AT 370Z. Tell them you are considering a MT. Test drive one for free. Experience the true experience


The AT learns (somewhat) how you drive. Pull the negative cable on the battery and hold down the brake pedal for 3-5 seconds. This will reset the ECU. Then reconnect and go drive your car. Mash the gas pedal at every opportunity for the next 50-100 miles. See if that makes a difference.

If it doesn't, get the MT ... or maybe a tune might help (throttle lag).

FWIW, the Exedy clutch that comes on the 2018+ (Not sure if just nismos) is vastly superior to the previously stock clutch. It feels noticeably softer and more forgiving, with wider engagement range and lower rebound rate so your leg doesn’t get as tired. It was basically the reason I bought a 2018 and waited for it to be shipped from Japan instead of a discounted 2016/2017.

I remember test driving older clutches and it made the 1st to 2nd shift really hard to get right comparatively.

release the throttle pedal a bit slower/smoother, since the engine gives the most drag at 1st gear.

then gas in a tad earlier before releasing the clutch onto the 2nd gear.

it will help.


it's a sports car, don't expect it shifts like a lexus.

I just got mine and have only driven it to & from the dealer. The clutch was a little weird the first time I drove it. It seems to have a longer engagement travel distance. After a couple of 1-2 shifts, all is well. The clutch is very light.

I have 2017 Nismo first thing I did was removed the clutch assist spring ... Problem solved for funky feeling clutch.

Okay is it difficult to remove the clutch spring ? If not too hard I might give it a try...

I have the RJM clutch pedal mod and yes it is a must if you have a Z. But it wont fix the 1st-2nd gear pull, the Z transmission just does not like to be rushed plain an simple. If it shifted like a porsche or even a s2k/rx7 it would be a dream.

My issue with the shift has nothing to do with the clutch, but the gearbox synchros. If I shift between 3,000 and 4,000RPM, 2nd gear grinds or "catches" on the selector every time. It does this until I've been driving for at least 45 minutes after which it's smooth. This is even with taking my time shifting gears, not rushing it.

The only cure (as I read on here) is to shift REALLY slowly 1st->2nd, or rev to 4,000RPM first and shift faster.

Kinda annoying having to drive around it.

The fuel starve issue with the 370Z is probably the most annoying issue I have had with my 370Z and I have had very few. Overall the 370Z when comparing to similar vehicles on the market they are very reliable/dependable but every vehicle has it’s corks. On the street and on the track a specially the fuel starve issue was always there. I found that depending on how hard you push your 370Z some owners got it and some did not. Myself just like a lot of people installed a fuel starve kit on my Z and it was the fix for this issue.

^^ This, the stock clutch pedal assembly is like an on-off switch. Couldn't deal with it, the RJM clutch pedal assembly fixed it 100%.
