Default Blackstone UOA Report is in

I would have added this to the original thread, but Trips locked that down after VTEC's little gender confusion incident...

Anyways, here it is. Copper is high but as the report deduced, I added a brand new oil cooler at the start of this oil's lifecycle.

Mailed it 06/18 from the Chicago burbs. Oil analysis report was generated on 07/03. The additional sample containers I requested and the report arrived 07/05 via USPS and email, respectively.

That's not a bad turn around time.

Not at all! I'm a worrier and this report has given me some peace of mind. I think I'll be sending in a sample every oil change.

What will you do with this information?. Just saying that when I had a Civic Si back in 2K a friend and I sent in oil samples and we both got the exact results, weird, don't remember the company. How much was the out of pocket?

I’m guessing the metal you saw was the copper from the oil cooler?

That's a good question. I don't believe so, as copper is so weakly magnetic that the magnet on the drain plug shouldn't have collected it. I think I'll cruise el forum-o later today and see who else has posted UOAs; maybe compare the #s.

I'm enjoying the increase in knowledge base this provides. Like, Molybdenum? I know a chick named Molly that bends like a pretzel...

@ "more ignorant." It's ok idk either. I have faith though; faith that Rusty will soon log on and tell us that molybdenum is an element he discovered while working on his 1928 Model T.. in 1929.

Molybdenum compounds (usually a sulfide of some sort) are used as oil modifiers.

As I track my Zs, I've been using Blackstone's UOA for a long time, and am quite satisfied. As a result of their analysis, I changed from Redline to Motul oil and have been able to extend my oil through 2-3 track events with confidence. Due to mileage variations between oil changes, I normalize the iron and copper content to PPB/mile which helps to clarify trends a bit better. My 2016 Nismo currently has ~25K miles and 5 oil changes and I'm still seeing a decline in the copper content from 900 to 300 PPB/mile (with big drop after 15K mi), while the iron is showing slight increase (350 - 500 PPB/mile).
