Notchy shifting and feeling bumps while shifting in to gear
Hello I recently picked up a z34, when I first got it shifting was a sooth as butter but then my csc went out and I drove it to a repair shop to have it fixed, I got it back and then I noticed a week later my shifts felt as you could say notchy and as if there is sort of a bit of resistance when shifting gears, I changed the tranny fluid as soon as I could (1 month after this started to happen) and it’s gotten a bit better but I can still feel it doing it, could this be synchros or could it be something else? And if so should I worry about it or just carry on?
|
Ps also when I wiggle the knob vigorously in neutral it seems to almost go away if not go away for about 5 mins, and I know I put enough tranny fluid in 🤔
|
So it was perfect until the CSC went?
I was going to suggest a rebleed of the clutch fluid but if vigorous wiggling of your knob (in neutral) sorts the problem for 5 minutes, I am not sure a rebleed is the answer to your notchy problem. |
When the CSC went out, it may have contaminated the fluid and damaged the CMC. Might be sucking in some air and clutch is not fully disengaging.

All perfectly normal AFAIC If you have Rev match turned on, it will “Rev” when you shake the stick in neutral. I’m guessing there’s some kind of relay that tells the motor you’re in between gears and to “match” the revs, maybe your synchros or going? Makes me think that if my trans starts shifting like butter, I’m going to have a problem? |
Let me know if you find anything. I've had the same issue where my transmission used to just slip into gears nice and smoothly and slowly over the last two years it's became increasingly more notchy and rough and now it's begun to very occasionally grind/lock me out when shifting at higher load/rpm. I've done everything short of either replacing the transmission or just selling the car at this point, it has irritated me enough.

And? What happened? Should have just bounced off the limiter at worst. |

I'm not entirely sure about that. I wouldn't bet on it. But I'm not willing to test it out myself lol
