Set timing with a timing light.
I’m looking at a knee replacement I swear was from the 4 years of “kicking” (in more ways than one) my ‘82 shovelhead...

I had a 1974 Husky 400CR that WOULD break your foot if you worn tennis shoes starting it and it kicked back. The guy I bought it from sold it for that reason. It broke his foot. It almost broke mine a couple of times.
