Just bought 2013 370z

Hi all,

Just purchased a 2013 370z Base with 7200 miles.
It’s in like new condition.

My question is what all should I replace or do maintenance on?
I will be changing the oil but is there anything else I need to worry about with a car with low miles and this age?

I would get an RJM Clutch Pedal just because it allows for easier daily driving. I would also install the CMAK sooner rather than later so you won't have to worry about the dreaded CSC issue.

Do a thorough check of the tires for ozone cracking. If it still has the factory tires, they may still have a good amount of tread, but may need to be replaced.

I'd do all the fluids...especially brake.

Everything is six years old now..including the coolant. I know its good for "100,000 miles" but I'd dump it anyway.

Tranny oil, diff oil, and coolant are all easy, so is a brake flush but if you have a place to work and some know-how its not bad.

For a dealership to do the above, you'd probably be at $500.00 bare minimum and likely higher.

P.S. Excellent advice on the rubber.

EDIT: Nissan uses a crush washer on the drain plug (oil change). make sure you buy some from Amazon or whatever before you do oil change.

Despite reading otherwise, I found the washers on the tranny and diff fill plugs to be flat steel washers (2018 base) and re-used them with no leaks whatsoever.

Congratulations! I second the CMAK kit, I got mine from ZSpeed, they had a package deal for a new clutch and flywheel so I figured why not. After that, head over to Z1 Motorsports and pick yourself up a 25 row oil cooler - it's a rather painless install and you wont have to worry about overheating.

Might check the strength of the battery also. Even though it's low-mileage, it's still 6 years old.
Probably OK, but it's always good to check.
I bought a battery checker for $8 on Amazon.

I replace all fluids when I purchase a used car. Engine oil/filter, transmission fluid(/filter), differential fluid, coolant, washer fluid. Will replace brake fluid if it looks or smells the least bit bad.
I check the tires. As mentioned above, not just tread depth but also condition of rubber. I'll also verify that they are the correct size.
I'll grease anything that has a zerk. Have to be careful not to over do it.

If you do your own maintenance/repairs, the FSM (link in sig) is a must-have.

Edit: Other than checking electrolyte level (when possible), I don't worry too much about the battery if it still cranks strong. But if it's 6 years old, I'd set aside a few bucks for a replacement.

Welcome and congratulations on your new to you Z!! I highly recommend replacing your Genuine Nissan OEM CSC with the Z Speed Performance CMAK before it fails and your Z ends up riding on the back of a flat bed tow truck I hope you have AAA good luck. I believe I am the record holder here I have replaced four Genuine Nissan OEM CSC’s before I finally installed the Z Speed Performance CMAK Kit glad I did. I definitely recommend installing an oil cooler kit before possible heat damage occurs to your engine if your Z does over heat.You will for sure want to do all your general maintenance on your Z like what was said above. Change oil and oil filter,change your transmission fluid(you will be glad you did),differential fluid,coolant,power steering fluid,and brake fluid. Check the level of your washer fluid. Check the condition of all your tires and adjust your air pressure. Check and test your battery condition.

Brake Pads
Battery
Have a specialty shop (if available) instead of a dealer take a good look.
CSC HD or CMAK swap asap (which does mean you're replacing the CMC as well, at least)
Oil Cooler asap

Reality is, yes, that's expensive as hell to do in one shot. I'm just speaking in terms of the most robust way about it — like, how to generally take care of a used car you just acquired and don't truly know the history off firsthand, as well as addressing some two of the biggest issues with the car. It is possible that the tires/pads/battery/even fluids are ok if you have sort of documentation those got replaced recently. Oil cooler can wait a bit by just driving easy.


IMO the CSC can't wait. You don't want to deal with the hassle of the unexpected downtime, towing and associated possible mishandling in the process.

Lots of good info here, OP. Most, if not all, of the things mentioned above you can DIY. Some things can wait - eg, if it steers and stops straight, you can put off brakes and alignment for a while (still ought to do a good visual check of pads and rotors as soon as you replace fluids).

Many maintenance and repair procedures have at least one thread on this site. Search is your friend. If you don't like the site's search, you can go to just about any search engine (Google, DuckDuckGo, etc) and add "site:the370z.com" to your search string.

I sold my '09 a few years ago and was always worried about CSC but fortunately I didn't experience it in my 3 years of ownership but the guy I sold it to had it fail within the year.

I recently picked up a '14 and am now paranoid about it so will look into getting it replaced.

I can't seem to find the petition for a recall or lawsuit that this site had, did anything come of that or did it get dismissed?

It used to be a sticky on the front page and had several hundred petitions.

Thanks all for the great info. It def. helps. I did my first thing tonight which was to change the oil lol. Thanks for the heads up on the crush washer!

Also, I'll have to do the other fluids soon. I'm sure I can get that done pretty easily myself.

I did check the tires they seem to be fine to me. The guy I bought it from was older and had it garaged so everything seems to be pretty much perfect so far.

I also have a 7AT not a manual. I'm not very car savy to know what a CSC is but I'm assuming it's only for a manual transmission or do I need to worry about something with the automatic as well?

The Genuine Nissan CSC is only for the 6MT transmission. As far as your 7AT transmission go’s as long as you change your automatic transmission fluid on time you should not have any problems. Unless you are putting down some really big whp/wtq the 7AT transmission is a very reliable and dependable transmission even for street duty or track duty and is quite efficient in terms of shifting through the gears. I have seen the 7AT transmissions last 250K-300K miles it really depends on what you use your Z for.

Read this site, thoroughly, before you change coolant and brake fluids. I, too, thought I could do them fairly easily on my own, and I previously owned a 350Z. I was... less than correct. There are always little foibles with any car when you're doing your own maintenance and pretty much all of them have been documented here.

I’m in a similar boat in that I just bought a 2013 with 81k miles with some history but not all. I was under the impression the 2013 and later Z’s had an oil cooler? Or did Nissan just make some changes to keep it cooler than older MY’s? Thanks
