Because the Z stopped being Nissan's flagship sports car when they released the GT-R. Now it's the red-headed, left-handed stepchild: ignored until its birthday, then given some hand-me-down stickers as a present.

Best reader feedback from the Jalopnik article .... "When you hit up the paint & stickers aisle at AutoZone"

Nissan just gave us loyal Z fans and Pete Brock a big **** YOU. And I mistakenly thought that doing nothing was the worst.

I️ would loved to have seen them do a modern version of a g-nose front end with the Nismo power bump. That would not have taken much, would have been cool as hell and would have paid homage to the original.

Now you've made me extra sad. That would've been dope.

I'm so glad I sold my 2010 Z last year. Not only was it outdated to current brands, but the latest Z makes it even less attractive. Nissan is far behind other makers in appeal and HP worthy.

i'm new to this board, and i see this attitude a lot... i don't quite understand it. how can an appearance package on a 2020 car make your 2010 less attractive?

if you have the car you like, what does it matter what nissan does with the z platform? is it that many people here don't like their 370z, are eager to buy a new car, and just really want it to be a nissan?

I can understand people that are upset over Nissan pinching off a fat, steaming loaf on the Z brand.

I also think that people who no longer own a Z, who then get on a Z forum to announce they're glad they sold their Z, because of a weaksauce variant that goes on the market a decade after their former car, probably have a bit too much of their self-esteem wrapped up in their car.

And/or they're hysterically under-endowed.

I'm guessing you haven't seen the news of the updates for the 2020 GTR and the re-release of Bayside Blue for the 50th Anniversary... Nissan seriously doesn't give a single **** about the Z whatsoever.

No, they don’t. I just can’t figure out why. Off the top of my head I can only think of the VW Bug, Corvette, Mustang and the Z that have made it to 50 continuous years.

You’d think that they’d do something other than stickers to celebrate that achivement.

It took Chevy almost 8 years to see the error of their ways after they killed off the Camaro. How long will the bean counters at Nissan take?

Zezus 04-17-2019 08:43 AM

There really aren't any other cars out there that fill the same niche as the z either...
The closest we have is the anemic miata. Other than that I cant think of a single 2 seater sports car for under 40k.

You'd think there'd be some market there that releasing a new model could snag (at least from current owners even)

CRiZO 04-17-2019 08:50 AM

The BRZ/86 drives almost identically to the Z. It just has no power. They're also not giving consumers what they've wanted (the missing power) since release 7 years ago.

I really just don't understand what Japan is doing anymore. At least Honda put out the Type R. We haven't seen anything exciting out of Japan besides that for about a decade now.

The Z would not be included in those cars that made it to 50 "continuous" years as there was a 2 year break in production from the end of the 300ZX (2000 in Japan) to the introduction of the 350Z (2002, again in Japan).
