Yeah, sales in 2019 are already running about 50% less on a yoy basis. Pinstripes and Hot Wheels paint gimmicks are't going to move the needle much. |

You know, it's not even a matter that the 370Z is a 10 year old design. It's a matter that Nissan never did a single thing to it in terms of updates other than very slight cosmetics (addition of DRL and a Nismo face lift).
Nissan provided ZERO engine options, ZERO power output options, ZERO suspension options. Hell, look at the Mustang, body-wise, it was virtually the same from 1979 to 1993 (14 years!). However, within those 14 years, there were noticeable updates to both the exterior and interior, fastback and notchback (coupe), there were multiple engine options (N/A inline 4, turbo inline 4, inline 6, 2.8L and 3.8L V6, carbureted and fuel injected 4.2L and 5.0L V8, supercharged 5.0L V8), a couple of different size and configurations of diffs (7.5" and 8.8"), several trim levels with improved performance (base, LX, LX 5.0, GT, SVO, SVT, Cobra and Cobra R). More importantly, over those years, horsepower numbers kept increasing. At least with the Mustang over those 14 years, you had options, and you had REAL improvements. What did we get from Nissan with the 370Z? ONE engine, TWO transmissions, an open diff or a crappy viscous LSD, and one Nismo tuned suspension. Oh, and a slightly different exhaust and tune for a whopping extra 18 hp for the Nismo package, which you don't even notice thanks to the added weight of said Nismo package.

I think as a starting point, before we even get to performance, we have to look at the main flaw in the Z: the clutch slave cylinder, which even after TEN YEARS, has never been addressed. It's still the same weakass plastic piece it's always been
As for the engine, it woulda been great to get multiple options, but i'm not expecting some VR38DETT option. Using the VQ in a million platforms is sorta what makes the business case work. But the G/Q has evolved in the same time period, while the Z has not. That's a pretty bad look. The Nismo only got real upgrades in 2015, 6 years after release. The prior nismos were virtually identical. Took them that long to get Recaros, and even then, we got half-recaros. Give us a full fuckin' Recaro Sporters CS at least as an OPTION. And know they have a access to full bucket Recaros in various GTR trims, make them an option. Right now, you can't even buy the good stuff from Nissan if you WANTED to, unless you wanted to get bent over by dealing with Omori Factory (GLWT). We know they slap GTR brakes on anything over there, give us those The Nismo fender flares on the 2015+ models? doesn't actuallly improve wheel clearance, it reduces it due to their attachment points. Ridiculous The 2015+ Nismo shoulda had the pre 2015 nismo wing as an option from the factory matte version of KAD paint - shoulda been an option, they already have the formula, let us buy it just laziness

considering the changes they've done to the altima recently, i take it nissan is just trying to make an attempt for us to stop buying the Z by making it uglier with pointless "upgrades" compared to previous years. Think about it, most if not all of Z owners cringe with the direction they're taking the car. what better time to kill it off

I get the impression that the Z car has always had its options built in through the trim levels.
No need to offer upgraded parts... just upgrade to "Sport" or "Nismo" trims to get the parts you want. Yes, it should be called the 10th anniv... not the 50th.

The only "real" difference between the base and Sport are the brakes and VLSD. The only "real" difference between the Sport and Nismo is a body kit. Precisely why I went with the base and built it into my own. It will outperform ANY stock Nismo Z on the planet at a fraction of the cost of a new Nismo. I could have easily bought a Nismo, but I wasn't willing to waste money on a bunch of junk I didn't want. And to me, those "upgrades" aren't true upgrades to me.

Base Sport Nismo
Differences are obvious between the 3. I’ve owned both the Sport and Nismo. Between the 2 stylistic variant is really the only major difference. Sure you could make a case for the exhaust being a performance upgrade but justification for the difference in price eh probably not. Aero wise that’s where most of the money is being spent. For the causal enthusiast the Akebono upgrade is a good choice but really all a matter of taste. Plenty of possibilities in all 3 versions depending on what the “working goal” is for the owner. With these special editions it is what it is. Special paint color scheme interior details is the point of differentiation but pretty much the same thing when you strip it all away. Moral of the story here is that the diehards for the Zcar are screaming for something truly new to get excited about. For me a complete overhaul would be best case scenario going back to a TT 2+2 might get me to give up mine, but it would have to suit my visual taste and sure as hell exceed what the driving experience and performance capabilities are of the Z I have now. Com’on Nissan shock the world! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

That's why I said the only "real" difference. I'm not talking about the slightly tuned Nismo suspension, and don't even consider the stupid syncro rev. That thing is totally useless unless you don't know how to drive.
