Maybe he didn't hear what you said. I would have flipped you off too. Imagine this. If I had a Civic and I just taunted a Porsche 911. He raced me and beat me badly. Then we both stopped at a light, then I said something to him. All he heard you said is "blah blah blah, my civic is better than your Porsche" So he rolled down his window and flipped you off. Is he considered a douchebag?
