If you are looking for a more balanced car than the Z that offers supreme handling the 987 Cayman/boxster S is the way to go IMO. If you want power then go for the Z06, Camaro or M3.
A few things to keep in mind about the e90/e92 M3. They don't feel that fast because of the way they make power. It's all up top. They're very heavy and don't get good gas mileage at all. Rod bearings should be replaced about every 60k miles as preventative maintenance. The throttle body actuators (there's 8 throttle bodies, 2 actuators) tend to go bad as well.

Having said that, they have one of the best sounding V8's with a 8400 RPM redline.

A corvette or something with torque would make a much more livable daily driver. A C6 grand sport would make an excellent choice.
