Well it looks like we may see a new Z car after all.

Hopefully it's not as fugly as that rendering :barf:

danegrey 09-07-2018 01:31 PM

will be interesting, to see the new design or how they improve on....
400 hp, would be nice, but not sure about having a 4 banger, Z has always had a 6

gryghst 09-07-2018 01:36 PM

Not crazy about the rendering they chose to go with the article either. I can't see the 4cyl selling well at all. Then again if they make the new Z light enough who knows.

i'm pretty sure the 4 banger was not true. yes, they do use the merc 4 banger in other platforms but the Z will have the VR30DETT.

we have a whole thread for this topic already

If its the new Z in that pic, i think its fugly AF, 2.0 turbo is weight reduction and if its that variable displacement engine with a dry sump pump, will be great against evos/subis on the twisties, that 3.0tt i personaly hate, yeah its a tt, but its intergrated exhaust mani and small displasement is horrible to go big power. The heat it produces is just stupid, if am buying another sports car its going to be the next supra, purely due to its new engine with 40% thermal efficiency.imho

ummmmm AMS had it up to 800whp already

now they cracked the code on swapping turbos and going for well over 1000whp.

Looks like a dadgum Celica

goeagles11 09-07-2018 03:18 PM

Fantastic news. Put the Q60s engine in there and it’ll be a nice start.

ltullos 09-07-2018 04:12 PM

Ignore the photos. These aren’t even related to the Z if you read the article. No concept sketches have been released!

Still rumor.

Cars get worked on and abandoned all the time.

goeagles11 09-07-2018 06:15 PM

Will this compete with the next gen BRZ which is rumored to be getting the Subaru Ascents 2.4L turbo (270hp) or the upcoming Supra?

Raidernation 09-07-2018 07:04 PM

Reminds me of a 2 door altima. I sure as **** would not buy that fugly car....

fire165 09-07-2018 07:44 PM

I’m sure the production car will be totally different to that picture.

Nixin 09-07-2018 09:18 PM

I do think my '16 Z looks better!

I haven't logged in here, as I tried to get my account set up many months ago in early 2018 and gave up when the admin failed to validate my registration in a timely fashion (2 months!).

I mentioned that the Z35 programme had been cancelled in January and that the plan was to phase out the unchanged 370Z in 2021 with the front-midship RWD platform.

This was probably the only forum that wasn't aware about what I wrote, no thanks to the account issue.

Nissan since 2011 had been working on and off on this Z programme, but keeps encountering numerous hurdles. (Also seen in a Leno documentary)

Over 1 and half years ago, a final design was set for the Z35 and would've been due for MY 2021, but was cancelled 8 months ago.

The styling and focus of this product plan was a more upscale design and execution, with a shared VR30DDTT engine with CV37 Q60 and V37 Q50 sedan and architecture of CV37.

Rumours in 2017 and 2016 regarding this have been valid, so you see why this gets bandied around by media outlets.

However, presently Albaisa is lying to save face and spinning this around, knowing very well this car has been dead interally since January. Anything you've heard since February 1st about a new Z, is purely rumour mill BS or media manufactured.

Take one rumour regarding the "2018 Tokyo Auto Show" where it will supposedly debut at.

There's no Tokyo show in "even-numbered" years, so that shows you their (lack of) credibility. In that case, do not trust any news from February to date.

I did say also, do not expect a Z35 before 2025 if the programme is being restarted internally. Only a very belated additional update is coming.

However, in regards to semantics, a facelift is being planned instead of retirement of the Z34 2+ years. Now regarding the R35 2021 facelift and R36...

BTW, ALL of the above is corporate Nissan information.
