I live in CA which is a front plate required state. Some cars I looked at on dealer lots had the plates installed and most had damage behind the plates from the overly long screw tips. The car I bought did not have the bracket or plate installed and when prepping it I told the dealer NFW to put it on or the deal was off. I've only been given a ticket once for no front plate and I'll continue to take my chances.

I wonder what's behind those 1 inch holes? Do you think rain or water/moisture will get in behind those holes easier and possibly corrode whatever is behind those holes?

Maybe that's the point. A deterent against NOT putting a front license plate on. Stupid idea though and mine didn't have these ridiculous holes in it.

WOW, this came back alive. Nissan replaced the bumper, but I'm sure that all kind of water and moisture would get in those holes.
However the Hall Nissan dealership body shop SUCKS!

My front plate does not sit flush with the bracket. Should I be asking my dealer to drill those 1 inch holes so that the j-nuts will fit and the plate will lie flush with the bracket?

Sorry about the picture quality, it came from my crappy 1.3 megapixel camera phone. This picture was taken top down. The orange arrow indicates the license plate bracket. The red arrow indicates the license plate. The blue double arrow indicates the gap between the plate and the license plate bracket. And the yellow arrow indicates the j-nut that sits between the plate and the license plate bracket. As you can see, the plate does not lie flush with the bracket. |

My question would be, is it 'flush' pointing forward, so that the plate appears to be straight if looking at it dead on, versus from up top. If they're going for 'effectiveness' in making your plate visible, they probably shot for the plate being flush to the front, rather than flush with the curves of the front fascia. |
