HELP!! Has problem 7AT in MANUAL mode
Mine is 7speed AT and I usually use manual mode because I belive it's better then D mode. More powerful!!and fun!! you know..
However, here is my problem. I found this problem yesterday night When I was trying to stop at the red light. The gear should be down shift automatically when the car getting slow down and it should be smooth between changing gear. But my car had noise(grinding sounds from tranny) and shaked, between the gear 3 to 2. Does anyone has this issue??:shakes head: |
take it to your local dealer for a checkup! that's not normal.. and I don't have any issues with shaking between any of the gears...

That said, an automatic transmission can't grind gears, all the gears are enguaged throughout the transmission (shifting occurs due parts of the transmission being held in place by clutch packs and/or bands)... In any case, it would be a good idea to take it in. |

I drive in manual mode all the time..
I will take it to dealer tomorrow and report back here:tiphat: |
Definitely check in with the dealer if you have some kinda of strange grinding noise on shifts w/ the 7AT. I don't see how that would even be possible, honestly.
Somewhat lurchy 3->2->1 downshifts are the norm on the 7AT if you leave it in 3rd or higher while you brake down to a stop, but there shouldn't be any accompanying funny sounds. Solution if you don't like the lurches is either pop it into neutral (you're stopping anyways) or downshift for yourself earlier on. I've got almost 14K miles on mine now and I've rarely ever had it in D, and mine's holding up fine. |
Can you put the transmission into N (neutral) while in manual mode? Just curious.

It seems to me some auto drivers think they have a manual car just because they drive around in manual mode all the time. This is a normal auto trasmission guys with a torque converter, I don't think it was designed to be driven like a manual alll the time, that would be a DSG type gearbox you're wanting. It sounds to me some auto guys wanted a manual but caould not be bothered shifting using a clutch. I don't know/think that thisauto would hold up well under these conditions, i beleive the manuafacturer probably intended for it to be used as an auto with the ocasional foray into m mode. jmho.

7AT Pros: No clutch to mess with in daily driving. You can put it in D when one hand is distracted by something or other and you're in a casual situation. You can let your girlfriend (or other random person) drive your drunk *** home without worrying about them burning up your clutch or shocking your drivetrain. Wider gearing range in both directions (lower lowest gear, higher highest gear, when you include the different rear diff in the calculations). More initial torque thanks to the torque multiplication of the torque converter. Easier launches. One less task for your brain to deal with in complex driving situations (all shifts are just pushbutton clicks, allowing you to focus more attention on things like steering angle, wheel slip, body roll, throttle position, the other nearby cars, etc) Both hands on the wheel all the time while shifting. 6MT Pros: The 6MT can shift faster (assuming the user isn't an idiot) The 6MT can be easily re-engaged from neutral to any chosen gear, the 7AT can't. The 6MT makes you feel like a real man, thus empowering your internet forum e-penis, allowing you to poke fun at girly 7AT drivers. |

Another question: does the transmission hold gear? Like when you're in 1st gear and you hit redline will the tranny upshift automatically? Similary, when you're slowing to a stop will the tranny automatically drop down to 1st gear at a stop?

I've owned both an AT & MT 370Z.
It really depends on what you want to do. The MT has you more involved in driving the car, and there is a lot internal satisfaction and daily enjoyment derived from that. When driving the AT in (M)anual mode you physically feel a layer of abstraction (or separation) from the car when driving. That said, I have seen a report that the AT has put down faster 0-60 & 1/4 mile times due to the *quicker* shifts (see article here). From experience, I will definitely say you will want to drive the AT in M mode all the time (for performance reasons). Also, know that the paddle shifters with the AT are quite nice and can be used at any time (in Drive mode or M mode); you lose this option when having a MT. |
so weird!!! I went to dealership to get fix this issue. When the service maneger test drive with me, that grinding noise were gone!!! We did several time.
And that noise back!! while I was driving back to my home!!:shakes head:WTF!! |

whether the transmission is in drive or manual mode....it still shifts gears...i doubt leaving it in maunual mode all the time has any negitive effects on the tranny.
