I will say that was a well balanced and fairly written article. - Of the many "the Z is dooomed" variants that have been released annually for the better portion of a decade.

I like the ones like this because I think it might also have the inverse effect of motivating buyers to get in on the decrepit ole' Z34 while it is still around.

Now I think I understand why Nissan went with the heritage stripes.:icon17:

Makes me realize again and again, why I bought my Z

Interesting thing is even without this article, the 370Z is one of those cars that most would owners never need to convince themselves about.

I'm not going to name drop other car communities, but there are some that kinda...."We've got a cool car guys...— oh, oh! the Camaro and Z are said to be worse cars in this article!"

heard it was auto-only.. and like all supras will probably be overpriced.

I go weeks and weeks without seeing another Z, I like that but it scares me that that will in it's self kill it.

US sales numbers have dropped from ~7400 in 2015, to ~ 4600 in 2017. And at the current 2018 monthly pace, Nissan will be lucky to reach the 3500 - 4000 unit mark. Given such a negative sales trajectory, and a platform nearing a decade in age, not sure if Nissan cares at all about continuing the Z much longer.

Sad...

Thesmoke90 05-31-2018 02:11 PM

Despite the low sales numbers, I can't go for a drive in San Diego California without seeing a 350 or a 370 at least once. Seeing them all the time here inspired me to finally buy one! (Because they look so cool)

Well maybe everyone who wants a new Z has finally managed to buy one over the past decade. Crazy idea, but make something new for people to buy.

My first car at 15 was a 1968 triumph gt6. I worked at a gas station down the road to pay for it. Small 2 seater with a heavy 6 in the front. After that came the 240z. It's the layout i learned to drive on and loved. The 370z to me delivers that same feeling. It's the best looking and driving car that I can comfortably afford. I appreciate it's basic analog nature and would not want to "upgrade" to a newer model of it doesn't keep with the philosophy of the original z.

Very similar story except I started with a bug eye (frog eye) Sprite. Then a TR-6. Went through a period where I didn't really care about cars much, but later in life found myself wanting that British sports car feeling without the reliability issues. Actually wanted a Miata, but my girlfriend has one. The Z fit perfectly.

The article was honest in its descriptions. The Z is it's own car. Unlike my camaro. It doesn't fit in one genre. The Z is part muscle, part sports, part roadster. It's a hybrid of different types of sports cars. And there's nothing wrong with that.

The Z will never be a car for the guy that wants to fit in a box. This car is for people who know what they want from their driving experience. Nissan did a great job back then.

I believe this car would be selling 10k units if the Z's headlights taillights and interior were more aggressively updated. Bringing the radio and nav up to date mainly. Giving the center gauges more purpose... maybe going digital/LED like some of the kooler aftermarket gauges.

The Mismo, should've gotten the red sport engine. Leave the base models N/A.

That could've sent the Z34 into 2020, rather strongly.

The Z35. A dual clutch for the Q60 and Z would be the smartest change.

The FM platform either needs to be changed or stiffened to its maximum. Cars like the Camaro are at least 20% stiffer. And that's before 1LE treatments. It shows more in the Q60 than the Z. But just imagine a chassis reinforced Z with the Mismo bracing. Also, they probably need to use more tensile steel to reduce weight. The Z has been a almost there car most of its life FOR NO REASON. These are improvements that don't need high research. Just a lot of dedication. That's what Nissan has been lacking.

BUT the Z is still in my eyes one of the GOAT's

HEK 06-01-2018 03:47 PM

the question is, are you happy with the Z....my answer is yes, what happens to the next generation is meaningless since I like what I have. I could have bought a Camaro, a Mustang, a BRZ, a GTR and the Z was what I wanted, now I'm a happy guy who smiles at it when I walk away from it and when I turn it on in the am.
If they discontinue, well the Celica is gone and I drove mine until it had 300 K and was in a glory even when it went from RWD to FWD...enjoy what you bought and stop looking into what the Z will look like or if it will go away, my 2 cents :driving:
