Car and Driver Crashes a Nismo 370Z

I dont disagree at all. I also feel that the accusations of crappy driving seem a bit unfounded, and C&D has a lot of credibility on the line, so if

I dont disagree at all. I also feel that the accusations of crappy driving seem a bit unfounded, and C&D has a lot of credibility on the line, so if they make a claim like that and PUBLISH it, you'd think they'd be confident enough to back their story up. Ive seen them fail before, and they admitted fault...why be any different this time?

Nissan makes a sports car, the 370z, great car and compares it to the Cayman. Two problems though; the Zed overheats on the track and its brakes fail on the track whereas the Cayman does not overheat and its brakes hold up. nissan, WTF is wrong with you? For a little extra added to the purchase price, you could have eliminated all this unnecassary image affecting problems. Yes some heads in the Nissan line up should roll.

~Brake heating issue - only on the track

Neither of these are within what Nissan advertise the coupe/roadster/Nismo at. They have never said the word "track" for this car, it is viewed by many as a track ready car and is very close to being track ready but it is not.

i have oil temp issues on the street and my rotors are purple, never been on the track

To me not a big deal to track prep my car. But I assumed the Sport Brakes would be track ready (the 370Z equivalent to the 350Z Track Brembos). I really assumed this would be the case, considering that Nissan didn't make any changes to the Sport Brake setup for the Nismo.

I agree. Doesn't discredit the Z in my mind, but it is disappointing and embarrassing knowing the Nismo 370Z cant hang with a stock Mustang after a few laps on the track.

Agreed, and AFAIK, Porsche doesn't advertise their cars as track queens.

In terms of street use, it hangs with the big boys quite well.

Default GTR in same Car and Driver Issue

Also in the same issue there is a small piece on the 2010 GTR. The article discusses the changes made to launch control for 2010. According to Car and Driver the GTR is now 0.8 seconds slower to 60 due to changes in the launch control program.

I also feel disappointed in Nissan. The GTR and 370Z are marketed as Porsche fighters for a fraction of the cost, but I don't read about 911 transmissions self destrucing after using launch control, or Caymans over heating or losing braking power.

From the rev up motor oil consumption to GTR transmissions, to 370 overheating problems it seems that Nissan may be sacrificing good engineering in order to meet pricing goals.

actually it was 0.6 seconds slower to 60, not 0.8

They will be fine on the road. That disclaimer is just a heads up that the pads are dusty and noisy. All track pads are dusty and noisy though so there is no alternative.

The only thing you can do is get street pads for when you aren't on the track (keep the stockers) and then swap them out the night before you go to the track...takes about 45 minutes for the average homo sapien to swap pads on this car.

You can't expect a car to cost 20k less and perform the same. Don't be disappointed, get pads and an oil cooler ( $1000 installed) and then you can go tool on those caymans all day long.
