Its very hard for me to believe that there was no fade at all, and then all of a sudden...BAM....no brakes, hahaha... What a thing to say to get out of being at fault for a crash. Who knows maybe it is true but hard for me to belive. There should be some bit of noticable failure or fade before the brakes go out like this due to pads. Everyone can speculate but no one will ever truly know but the driver of this car.

I don't recall any other mags having this issue while testing Z's. Not a big fan of C&D with the new editorial staff & writers, either.
WTF is with the way they do comparo tests now, they have subjective categories like "gotta have it" that can tip the scales from one car to another...that's why the G37 barely lost to the 3-series last time

And I too would want to know if other cars in the test were prepped in any way, or were these cars bought through normal channels (As they should be). If it's Nissan's fault again then that makes two enormous marketing blunders with these cars since their debut a year ago...the first being the fiasco when they delivered oil cooler-equipped cars to the media.

Possible, but I've never seen an offical Nissan statement to this effect, just a lot of "it should be" type statements. If they do claim "track ready", I agree, huge blunder.

PM's sent guys. You guys are funny. Ryan is adding the items to the website right now, but just call in if you'd like to order. Ryan, Decker, or Sandy can take the order.

I just read the C&D article and after listening to you guys who have run on the track I am going to replace my pads with some higher rated track spec ones. I found this link on disassembly/re-assembly: http://http://blogs.insideline.com/r...ge-part-1.html
I too thought my Nismo had kickass brakes. I am just coming out of the brake-in period so I have not done any hard driving yet - good thing. Last edited by Z370man; 12-28-2009 at 07:20 PM. |

FWIW, this is what can happen when you try to use street pads on a track. The pads actually lit on fire, caused the caliper piston to seize in the full-out position, and then melted around the calipers piston. The fire ended up melting and rupturing the brake line, causing him to lose all fluid. Luckily, all this didn't happen until right after he got off the track, or it would have been devastating.
