I hope this are not the question an 18 year old asking while on the steering wheel of a 370Z.

I'm not referring to you OP. I just wish you have a reason for asking that and you intend to do it in the track and not on the street.

The Z is limited to 155 with the ECU and by aero drag. To eliminate the 155 ECU limit. You have to use Uprev or Etec. Mine is reset to 199 mph. Will it see it? I don't think so. Unless it's dropped out of a plane. With the ECU limit removed. You will be lucky to see 145 mph stock.

In Florida if your caught at 110mph speed I believe it's considered a criminal offense, jail time is a big possibility and the 145mph speed you'll ever see and experience is sitting behind the patrol car. Lol

In Pa. Anything over 26 mph over the speed limit gets you 6 points. That's a written test the first time. The 2nd time for 6 points. It's a hearing $$$$$. 31 mph, spread your butt cheeks. The state is going to stick it to you depending on how many points you have already.

Yeah, the 155 is an ECU limit.

I've heard the mechanical limit (redline rpm + gearing + wheel size) for some models is right around 200, but you'd need more engine grunt to get there. The aero of a 370Z produces downforce as well, so they get heavier the faster they go...

To provide "other reason": Insurance. The capabilities of a vehicle play into how much it costs to insure. If that gets out of hand, the market dies (see Pontiac Fiero).

To provide an example: nearly to a vehicle, 18 wheeler tractors are speed limited. It isn't that a modern truck can't do over 100 pulling a trailer, it's that they're speed limited, sometimes to as low as 67. The reason is insurance. There is a trucking company that tried to buck the trend: Swift. And they were. Operating without governors, they could deliver faster than other truck lines. But within three years of operation, insurance costs forced them to install governors and now they go the same speed as the rest.

Default The Tale of the Fiero

It occurs to me that many members may be too young to recall the story of the Fiero. The Pontiac Fiero was a compact sports car, laid out in a MR format. There was a 4 cylinder (2M4) and a 6 cylinder (GT).

The Fiero, like the Toyota MR2 was referred to as "the poor man's Ferrari" in reference to the MR layout (most Ferrari's are MR layout).

The MR layout can easily provide oversteer, making it an excellent sports/racing platform, but similar to the RR follies of the 1980s turbo 911s, all too easy to wreck.

Insurance costs on Fieros went through the roof as inexperienced drivers wrecked them with regularity and after a five year run, the model was ended.

PS
And for those making the connection, the Toyota MR2 also has a well-deserved reputation for crashing due to overdriving.

PPS
While I could see a MR or RR car as a plaything (Alpine 110!!), I would never have one as a daily driver as you would eventually have a slip in attention and get bitten.

Wasn't the Fiero the car that was known to burst into flames when rear-ended at low speeds?
