370z MODS!!
hey guys im fairly new to the car scene and i want to focus my 370z first on performance then stance. so my question is what mods would you need before doing Revup tune, i dont want to retune so i just want to know what i would need for the most hp.
so far i have -tomei full cat back exhaust -tomei test pipes and im planning on getting -tomei y pipe -stillen gen 3 intakes -mishimoto radiator/oil cooler so what else would i need besides what i listed ? i dont know what cams and injectors are or if i even need them. etc so if you guys can please help me out and explain to me these things and what i need to push the most hp with the revup i would love the feedback. |

Base models gets different first mods than sports and nismos because each uptick in trim level includes the things you'd be buying anyway. For example, on a base Z you probably want to look at a LSD - but the Nismo comes with one so no real need unless your pockets are deep enough for a mechanical to replace the viscous. Then there's the AT/Manual question as that effects the gearing... And there's different schools of thought for track performance, straight-line racing, and drifting... So - tell us more about what you have and what you ultimately want it to do. |

See here for the final gears brain-dump. I'd steer clear of intake/exhaust before FI because whatever you buy now you'll probably change then. If FI is more of a dream-thing, then yeah - allowing the engine to breathe better always helps a bit... But just realize that you're mostly doing it for looks and sound until you go FI. |

ok lets then forget about boost since its hella expensive, since im auto what mods should i have before Uprev tune my car. ( be as specific as possible.)

And changing the pipes into and out of the engine can only do a couple of percent on that - at best - which is usually within the realm of the ECU to figure out on its own. That and the VQ is fairly dialed in out of the box... There's just not a lot of hidden HP to find on such an established engine. So, in generic terms, after buying the license for uprev and paying someone to remap the car you're looking at about a grand for about 10whp and 7tq. By way of example, the NISMO VQ37 is technically full bolt-on and tuned and only generates an additional 18HP over stock. |

Using Quality fuels & having it tuned for it is extremely important for optimum power gains.
Going without tuning is screwing yourself.

On our cars trying to make power naturally aspirated gets expensive quick and will be or exceed the cost of a turbo or supercharger kit. If you plan on a turbo kit in the future for sure then I would skip intake and exhaust since most of all of it will be changed out and a aftermarket cat back exhaust would be the only part useable after you install a turbo kit. I would have to agree that gears would be the best bang for the buck. One mod I believe is a must for all 370Z’s is a aftermarket oil cooler even if you track your car or not it will certainly prolong the life of your VQ engine. I have seen a lot of people dyno tune their 370Z’s over the years. The only time I seen somewhat lean conditions naturally aspirated is if you decided to install long tube headers or run cat less test pipes. If you plan to install high flow catalytic converters or run the stock Nissan catalytic converters don’t waste your money tuning your 370Z wait until after you install forced induction on your 370Z. Naturally aspirated you may see max 10-15 whp and 7-10 whp from my experience.
