370z - Paddle shifters???
I have '09 370z (7AT). I had the car for more than a year now. Really wanted to get the manual and learn how to drive the stick if it's not because of a good deal the time I got the car. I've been wanting to try the paddle shifters but I never driven a stick/manual car. I kinda have an idea on how manual car works but I'm little scared that I might messed up the transmission if I don't downshift or upshift to the right gear??
Does the car will automatically do the shift for you if you're not at the right gear?? Do you have to leave your feet off the gas when shifting like the manual? I'm still a newbie on this car wanted to try the paddle shifters to add more fun while driving |
Really; a whole year & never bounced off the rev limiter?
I know you can’t up shift too soon- & I don’t think it will let you down shift & put rpm’s above 7600.... but I had often bounced mine off the limiter/ especially when tires would break loose. |
Up shift is only possible after 2000-2500rpm. If you try to up shift under 2k, it will make a noise letting you know you can't up shift yet.
Down shift is exactly what jchammond said, it will rev your rpm high. If you are not trying to cut lanes and zoom off, you don't really need to worry about down shifting because the car will automatically drop gears if you are slowing down. |
Not trying to be funny... I think you can use some practice in video game first, like Forza or Gran Turismo. You can explore and not get in trouble (with the law or your car).

You bet. To get the bestest 1/4 mile times try starting off slow, like 45mph-ish and suddenly drop it in reverse then upshift with the left toggle switch. This resets the ECU on the flux capacitor.

ECU will auto downshift for you as you slow down
YOU must upshift as it will not in manual mode ECU prevents you from upshifting too soon, and downshifting too late - rev protection on both sides. ECU also has a 1sec delay built in on shifts - unless you have had to a tuner and had that removed :) Can't really mess it up to be honest, and if you do, slap back in auto *shrug* Frankly, if you can already manual run a 7AT at the stick, paddles is no different . Just takes place of the stick is all, but can still use either |
