After 19K km's my Z is still perfect - no issues. Mind you it's the Canadian model so it must be better built for our climate !!!
Anyway, I had a nasty bug splat that initially would not come off and was quite noticeable in the clearcoat. But after several washes it seems to have disappeared! I recall another forum member commenting on the same thing a few months back. Is this possibly the 'self-healing' paint? Maybe someone can explain this as I assume all Z paints are the same except for the colour of course.

actually yes it is not very good paint. All paints have become worse and worse trying to make it more "green". The days of lead in paint are gone, but the leaded paint was very very durable.
Also Mercedes uses a higher end paint, its very hard and is really hard to chip, not saying that it won't chip it can just take a lot more of a beating. CeramiClear is the clear coat they use, its a ceramic paint from PPG. All paints are not the same, and they are definitely not all priced the same. Last edited by fatcat777; 12-24-2009 at 10:24 AM. |

Actually thats not true. I measure the paint on every vehicle I detail and the Z is not thin at all (4.5 mills on average). And as far as it chipping easily, being a medium hard clear coat it won't chip as easily as a hard clear. I owned a 2003 VW Jetta GLI for 7 years which had very soft clear, and it didn't chip bad at all. I would rate "my" Z as average as far as the hardness of the clear. I'm having clear bra installed very soon to assure a good looking car for years to come.
