Steering wheel lock fuse pull

The steering lock has messed up on me again for the 2nd time, and i was wondering if the car MUST be in ACC mode to pull the fuse.

My car wont go to ACC right now, I want to just pull the fuse out right, will it fix my problem?

Nissan dealership is charging me ~ 1000 to get this fixed since they fixed it already, which i really dont want to pay.

i understand the search function, but i have a very specific question pertaining to if my car must be in ACC to pull the fuse or not.

The car has to be in ACC before you pull the fuse (steering column unlocked)
