Just wanted to say hello. Based in Charlotte. Bought a 2017Z with 500 miles on it. Great car. I am a Porsche guy by heart - have owned 11 including a Twin Turbo X50 car. Recent divorce and finances pushed me in a different direction and needed a toy. Fell in love with the look and the price of the Z. Was considering a Cayman, but for the cost and HP, etc - the Z comes in just about the same but much much less costly.

Gunmetal Grey. now has 900 miles on it. Put on the AAM Resonated short tails and they are such a great sound. Not too much drone but does buzz with a lot of vibration in the back. Doesn't matter - they sound fantastic. The fitment sucks though. No offense to AAM, but this is an issue I have read about a lot and no matter how many spacers I use on one side to get it to drop, the other side is just so low. Played with it quite a bit but to no avail. If anyone has any tips, let me know. I would really like to have them tucked up as close to factory as possible (and at least even)...but one side is just so much lower than the other. Simple to install though. Took an hour and that was me taking my time. Instant noise. so great...but fitment sucks.

I look forward to being a part of this. I am 45 years old and to be honest - don't miss the Porsches because of the Z. I like that I have full warranty, a reliable car, great HP, superior looks and the ability to mod if necessary. If I ever get really back up on my feet - may consider doing the Supercharger or Turbos. But not really sure if it is necessary.

I have the base model - I may be one out of a thousand to say this, but I really do like just basics. I am not a navigation guy, don't care about a small spoiler, don't cars about red brakes, etc. I like the dark sinister look the car has from factory. I love the pick up. I love the old style (1980s anyone) interior, etc. I will probably leave her factory so if I ever decide to sell, someone else can put their stamp on it. I am a nut about keeping my cars clean, wash and detail constantly. I am the guy that wipes down every door jamb, gets into nooks and crannies on every wash, etc. Love having something that is just for me...

I do plan on getting a clear bra done as the dark color can show chips, but I am also extremely careful to not follow close to people and think about the roads I will be driving on before I drive on them. I am very OCD.

Being part of Porsches forums, it just always seems like someone is having an issue. I am excited that the warranty may not make those forum posts necessary for the next 5 years. The car is as new and perfect and I plan to keep it that way. I (at this point - this moment) have no intention to ever sell this car. Its affordable and fun and very easy to work on. I am in love!

Anyway - sorry for the ramble. I look forward to being part of the group. If any other Charlotte people out there...let me know. Would love to meet up and compare notes.

Take care everyone!

welcome. I had 2 porsche's before, a 1985 1/2 944 and a 1988 911. great cars. I didn't own them very long tho. like you I feel like i'll own the z forever. I also keep my cars spotless. I bet most people with such nice cars do too. mine is also gunmetal. I understand about the "basics". that's how Porsches were. it was all about the driving. no frills necessary. good luck with your z.

One silver lining to the base model is you don't get the fake motor noises (that's a "feature" of the Bose audio system).

Welcome!

My last one as I was leaving into this new chapter was also an 88 911. Fun car! I had an 89 944 Turbo as well with all the S upgrades from 88. Best car out of all of them. What a rush when the turbos kicked in. My 911 TT was just plain scary to drive. But beautiful to look at. The Z seems to have it all!

drove the 997.1 before getting the Z. I personally thought the 997.1's interior was dated and the shifter was terrible. Great engine and exhaust tone, but didn't think it worth the higher purchase price and maintenance cost (IMS & RMS potential issues, $1200 just to replace the plastic coolant expansion tank!!).

You have SOHO motorsports that can help you with the modding part when ready. They are in Charlotte. Welcome and have fun.

I took mine to a local exhaust shop and they had to cut and re-weld the hanger arms to make the Short Tails even. It took them 30 mins and only cost me $20.
