370z. Timing belt or chain? I hope it has a

chain, i don't like timing belts. Much obliged y'all.

Double-chain means it's a chain with two sets of rollers, and 3 links.

Sort of like this => |=|=| <=

There would be no point to putting a single chain on the front and back of the engine - the torque differences between the front and rear of the engine (due to crankshaft/camshaft flex) would stretch the chain eventually.

you are correct about what i meant when i said double chain.


now.... this is a V-6, V. typically it is not 1 large chain that handles both halves of the motor. a lot of cars (Z32s if i remember correctly) have a chain (double chain) in the front of the motor for 3 of the cyls and another chain (double chain) in the back for the other 3 cyls.

I've not seen a design that puts a timing chain in the rear of the engine.

So, I could be wrong...I'm just saying they won't put a chain on both ends of a given crank AND camshaft, it'd not make sense to do so, and would wear out the chains faster.

just checked the service manual. it's a large chain in the front for the crank and both heads, followed by 2 smaller chains for each pair of cams.

Just to mindfųck the whole thread, the VVEL engines don't have camshafts, right? They have a set of eccentric cams for the VVEL that are adjusted by a motor. I didn't even see cam chains in an exploded view of the VVEL system. Maybe I'm missing something.

We have a traditional exhaust cam in addition to the variable system for intake.
