Well I decided to ask Nissan the question only to get the standard evasive answer... (pasted below). Based on that, going forward, I will probably use the weights recommended in the 2010 manual. I don't think it would make much of a difference but decided to ask. File #6692280 Dear Mr. David Yan, Thank you for contacting Nissan North America, Inc. regarding your concern with the differential gear oil. We apologize for any inconvenience this situation may have caused you. Please be advised that according your vehicles owner’s manual the differential gear oil for your vehicle is genuine Nissan Differential Oil Hypoid Super GL-5 viscosity SAE 80W-90*5. This information can be found on page 9-2 of your owner’s manual. We can only recommend what has been advised in the owner’s manual. Nissan relies on its authorized dealers to provide technical support to our valued customers. Please contact or visit your local Nissan dealer, as they are in the best position to address your vehicle concerns. File #6692280 has been created to document your inquiry. If you have any further questions or comments, feel free to call Nissan Consumer Affairs at 1 800 647 7261 and reference your file number. Thank you again for contacting us and allowing us the opportunity to be of assistance. Sincerely, Nissan North America, Inc. Nicole Myers Consumer Relations Representative Nissan Consumer Affairs |

This is interesting because when I called Nissan about the difference in fluid recommendations, they told me the owner's manual is only recommended items but the dealers know best. Therefore the logic says to go with an 80W-90. Furthermore, dealers dont carry any Nissan 75W-90 oils at all, especially not a synthetic differential fluid.
I'm going with my manual too and putting in 75W-90 synthetic fluid. I figure that they had a reason for changing this, even if the customer service folks running a phone line dont know what it is.
