Nismo Recaros vs Base Seats
I just test drove a 2014 with cloth seats and had issues with the seat putting quite a bit of pressure on my left hip. The issue was exacerbated by the fact that the padding was broken down and the seat frame itself was digging into my hip, especially on right turns. In looking at pictures, it seams that the seat bed for the Recaros is actually a bit wider than the base seats. Can anyone confirm this?
I won’t be purchasing a Z for a year, or two, but wanted to test drive a cloth seat version and a 15+ Nismo. Unfortunately, there are almost no 15+ Nismos in my area and don’t really want to drive two hours when I’m not ready to purchase. On a side note, the previous Z I tested was a Touring 7AT, and this was a Sport 6MT. I thought after driving the 7AT that I could live with that transmission but after getting back into a 6MT it just felt like home. The only thing I’m not crazy about is how the revs drop slower than I’d like and I have to wait an extra beat before releasing the clutch, on up shifts, to keep the shift smooth. I’m kind of glad that I had the hip issue as I could have had a much harder time walking away! |
Iirc the nismo seat bottoms are the same as the sport, only the back is different.

The Recaro seats are a tight fit as they are meant to be. I'm slim at 6' and 180 lbs. I can tell you that there is absolutely no movement space on my bum due to bolstering. Soooo, yeah it will be a tighter fit than a standard seat.

At 6'6" 275'ish...my base touring leather heated seats are pretty dang comfortable;
I definitely fill them up. |
Thanks for your input guys!

Strangely, Nissan has a slightly different bottom for the driver's side seat. The design looks halfway between the regular seat bottom and the bottoms of the Recaro Sportster CS. The center sticks out a bit farther than the bolsters and the bottom bolsters have two rows of stitching and I think slightly different shape vs the regular seats. Even more interesting...This article clearly shows both driver and passenger seats with the slightly different base (both seats have the double stitched bolsters and the extended center cushion) https://www.autoevolution.com/review...view-2016.html Vs this setup which I usually have seen: http://pictures.dealer.com/ddc/resiz...8e607ec6bx.jpg Maybe a slight difference between US and European/Japanese market Z's? |
