370z neutral to drive whoops
Did i mess up my z ?
Last night as i was exiting the highway (it was in manual mode) , i totally forgot it was in manual mode since i had cruise control on . Well as i started driving it reved high in first gear like 6k rpm . Im so used to shifting my infiniti g35 by pushing it up , well in the z it gos into neutral .. so now im in neutral with 5k-6k rpm and i pop it back into drive, and the car jolts and tires chrip . im like ****! Did i mess up anything ? I got home safely , still drove fine |
Congratulations, dude! You just popped the clutch on an automatic!
It will be fine, as long as you don't make a habit of it, lol. Kirk B. |
I did totally not understand the sequence of what happened, but going form D into N is totally fine. Also going back into D is "only" wearing out your clutch. Even on Automatics it's a part that can be replaced, but it's just a headache to do so.
Most people should just leave it in D all the time when they drive. ;) |

Soooo, I don't think you harmed anything if it's driving fine. I also think the electronic controls within the tranny would have probably prevented any harmful shifts. |
If I remember correctly the computer cuts throttle on an unloaded engine at high RPM. Can't remember the cutoff ATM.
|
You're probably OK. As others have mentioned the trans is pretty tough and the nannies will try to prevent you from destroying anything.

thanks for the input guys ..i barely got her too , cant be abusing her yet ;).. when it happened i figured it simulated reving up the rpms and dropping the clutch , but not sure about this 7a/t, which is why im asking

Glad no damage to your new ride. Neutral to drive is still better than drive to reverse. ha ha

I mean there has to be some piece that will competely disconnect the transmission from the engine in Neutral. But yes, I agree, the 370Z AT is still one of the best. I never annoyed me so far as compared to some VW DSGs... :eekdance: |

* there may be a more technical name, but that's what I've heard them called over the last 45 years or so. https://www.google.com/search?q=clut...2Btransmission |
