I've never opened a door into a garage wall, a car in a parking lot, a gas pump or anything else for that matter. Being deliberate has its advantages.

Just wait. When you get older and don't move or bend like you used too. You'll bang a door.

I'm good, chiro and orthopedic surgeon said MRI of my back shows the spine health of a 70 year old, still not bumping stuff.

I'm getting it for the wife. I'm real good about it (only hit 1 car opening the door that I can remember in 40 years of driving and that was years ago when the couple were in the car and having a fight. I expected to come out of the store and see my car trashed but nope). but I'm more concerned about the mrs.

And how old are you now? If your spine is aged like a 70 year old at your age now, how well do think it will be holding up in 10 years? How about 20-30 years? ;)

OP, I just use the framing to protect the garage walls. Car doors can go right through the gyp board and the wall stays standing

My garage has the concrete foundation for about two feet, and then the stick part of the garage walls framed on to that (bolted onto it, actually). I just liquid-nails'd some rigid R5 foam insulation sheeting to the concrete and trimmed to fit...

That was about five years ago now; works like a champ. :)
