The Photobucket issue

Is www.the370z.com going to pay the (extortionist fees) of $399 a year so that all the photos in these highly informative posts aren't lost?

I'm looking to make some modifications in the coming weeks, specifically upgrading my brake lines to SS. Pictures would really help.

Has anyone heard? Lots of information is going to be lost if the board doesn't pay.

Super wondering about this as well. It would really be a bummer to lose all the amazing pictures and work people have done to get us this info.

Better start pushing them 'the370.com' stickers hard haha.

DeliriousClam 07-25-2017 12:26 PM

I'd say wait it out. Photobucket will realize they dun goofed soon

I sure do hope so. Imgur: The most awesome images on the Internet is a great option.

Why would this site host images on a third party site anyways?

I pay ~$120 a year for my website, unlimited storage, I unlimited bandwidth. That's where my photos are stores and posted from.

It blows me away that so many businesses were using photobucket. This is probably why they set the price so high because they figure businesses will pay it. The average person was not going to pay anything anyways.

gomer_110 07-25-2017 02:42 PM

You all realize the pictures aren't truly gone just that the embedded feature doesn't work anymore, right? You can always right click the image that isn't showing up and select copy image address and paste it into a new tab.

I used photobucket for a while but in the last few years their site has gotten almost completely unusable due to ads. Do yourself a favor and move over to flickr.

Jayhovah 07-25-2017 02:44 PM

Is it the forum that needs to pony up? Or is it the individual account owners who have hosted their pictures? (I'd assume the latter).

Also, no way this site pays up for something like that when this site itself will allow you to host pictures.

Did not work. Did you try it?

One option is to go into users album by clicking user name, and do a slide show to view images.

gomer_110 07-25-2017 03:10 PM

Yep. Tried it and it worked just fine. I'm using Chrome as a browser for what it's worth.

*edit: Checked a few more and it seems like some work and some don't. Not sure what the difference between them is.

Third party hosting means that we have our pictures on Photobucket (or other) site and embed an IMG code in our posts.

Mine aren't...'cuz they hornked me off and I pulled them all off.

This forum pays to host it's own storage, including hosting photos. There are size limitations yes, but you can upload either to individual posts or an album on this site. So why the hell would AK pay some other third party site to do what he's are already paying for?

AK is a busy guy and tries to get to those requests monthly. If it's been more than a month, go ahead and PM him again and let him know how long it's been. He'll get to it eventually; the best thing to do is just be patient and polite about it. I wouldn't PM him more than every two weeks.

I'm aware of what third party hosting means and what photobucket does, maybe the OP is not since he asked if this site was going to pay? This led me to believe this site was hosting images there as well, not just users. I'm on another forum that was doing that for some.images because they just didn't know any better.

So to make matters worse the whole situation is confusing people.

Gotcha.

Ticks me off that they just up and started charging with no warning that I'm aware of.
Hate being blindsided.

Yep, I thought it was the site that would have to pay in order to allow the cross linking. I guess I'm wrong.

I'm done with photocrap. :shakes head:

madwi 07-25-2017 10:02 PM

I dont know how anyone could have used that site in the last year with all the ads and crap that keep trying to load. Ublock origin goes nuts there. :icon14:

The ads was really getting bad the last few years. :shakes head:

No reason to hold onto PB. I still have about 400-500 photos sitting there but it has been at least 3 maybe 4 years since I used it. They decreased my storage space, asked me to pay if I needed more, and the ads became unbearable. Use Flickr or google.

crazy4oldcars 07-27-2017 06:36 AM

PB is also not secure. I did a search on my PB username, and found my pics on a (foreign) stock photo site. Apparently I was attributed, or I would have never found out. Since then, I put a copyright on all of my pics.

Not a bad idea to put a watermark IN your pictures also. That is, in the metadata.
Non-visible, but can show that someone doesn't own your pic.

crazy4oldcars 07-27-2017 05:15 PM

My Pentax allowed me to write that info into the exif data. Ain't technology great.

kingjah23 07-30-2017 01:25 PM

Use the chrome extension "photobucket embed fix" and you can view the pictures. You have to clear your cache first though.

Leingod 07-31-2017 08:52 PM

I just took all my photos down from PB, uploaded them to Flickr, and deleted my PB account. Screw that aids ridden craphole of a site. All of my photos that I uploaded here that mattered have been moved over to Flickr without issue.
