Most bizarre thing happen to me today! Unable to Rev past 2500 RPM!

Okay.. this happened 20 minutes ago. I'm leaving this big supermarket. I was slowly driving in the supermarket market lot (I'm leaving now) and came to a stop. My car was in 2nd gear (I guess I kinda forgot to change to 1st). I am waiting for this guy to pass and then I'll go but instead I get the "wave" meaning he wants me to go. So, I wave back and kinda gas the engine a little and keep moving. When I pressed the gas pedal, I heard the "clunk"/"weird clutch/gear noise" and I didn't think too much of it. I thought since I was in 2nd gear, that's why there was the noise for. Now I'm waiting at a red light (please note I haven't driven my car yet fully. From stop sign to the lights maybe 200 ft. I haven't revved the car past 2000 RPM yet).

Light turns green, I drive off. I can't REV the engine past 2500 RPM! WTF! :wtf: I started rowing through the gears because I have to keep moving yet I can't go above 2500! Fortunately, I had the camera in my car and I was able to take a video. Take a look at the video

I only live about a mile away from the supermarket. I come home. At this point, I'm very angry and confused at the same time. Angry because I have to call my local Nissan dealer and ask them to tow my car to their dealership. I not too fond of this dealer to begin with hence I DIDN'T bought the car from them. Before placing the phone call, I turn the car off and on again. Problem still there :(. I do this few times. At this point, I'm frustated and decided I'll go home and call them from my house phone. So, I BACK MY CAR up by putting the car in REVERSE . Now, just to check for the last time, I put the car in 1st and rev it, IT REVS! :D So, I take the car out for a spin and it's revving fine.

I have no clue what just happened. Could this be a electrical glitch? I don't know because turning the ignition on/off didn't help. Could this be a gearing issue? Possible. Reverse gear seemed to fix the issue. What do you guys think? Didn't we had a few threads where member(s) couldn't rev past 3500 and shutting the car off solved the problem?

Can you duplicate it again? Or has it fixed it self from the reverse?
All I can think of is something wrong with the ecu

Do you have a tune?

It was fixed when I put the gear into reverse and reversed the car a little bit. I don't think I can duplicate it again but if I do I'll keep you posted.

NO Tune. Stock ECU.

Unplug the battery for a few minutes and try to rev it again.

EDIT: try to reset the ecu next time

Sounds like an ecu glitch. Almost as if a valet map got loaded in by accident or something. Very strange.

First thing that came to mind was cobb valet map

So, it looks like the only thing unusual is that AK started off in 2nd instead of 1st? I wonder if he (or anyone else) would be able to replicate the problem by simply starting off the line in 2nd.

I don't think you can hear in the video clearly, but it wasn't a smooth rev at all! When I was hitting the limiter at 2500, it was a vibrantly shaky gluck-gluck-gluck noise. It felt like something went really bad in gear/clutch mechanism. But I was surprised that it was fixed automatically 5 minutes later when I reversed it.

It does look like your odometer lights are flashing too

lol.. no that's the camera. If you try to take video of your computer monitor, it'll flash too. Something to do with refresh rates and camera lens. :tiphat:

You reversed the problem....... Corny joke... Yes

The N in the center gear indicator and the display on the left are flickering as well. But I wonder if that's just due to the video camera.

Edit: never mind, AK beat me to it. lol

That happened to me once in my G but my VDC light was flashing as well. Turning the car off and then on again fixed the problem. I chalked it up as a glitch and it has never happened again in 35K miles.
