You have to get a tune. Like Cobb AP or Uprev. Then you get extra ECU maps, like valet and anti-theft.

Yeah, anti-theft. It works by modifying the rev limit. On my car, for instance, if I load the anti-theft map, revs are limited to 1000 rpm. So you can start the car, but you ain't going anywhere. For the valet map, I have the revs limited to 3000 rpm.

ok...so I wonder what would happen if while this rev limit issue is happening and you get the car up to speed, you downshift, needing the revs to be above 2500 rpm to get in gear, should it rev up past 2500 to wear the revs need to be or what......?
To me I think it would let you get in gear and probably just drift down to 2500 not letting you accelerate.... |

Right. But what happens if someone breaks in and manages to hotwire the car? Or what if someone manages to steal your fob somehow (sees you get out of your car and picks your pocket, for ex.)? With an anti-theft map, you have the added peace of mind that even if someone somehow manages to start the car, they're not going anywhere with it. They'll just get confused every time they hit the gas and the engine won't go past 1k rpm, then hopefully they'll bail.

With the Cobb AP, you'd have to connect the AP device up to your OBDII port and load the desired map via the device. I'm not 100% on this, but I seem to recall that Uprev's software doesn't allow for the rev limit to be set at zero. I watched Sharif when he did it, and he had to input a range of min and max rpm. I don't think the sw allows you to set both at zero. He also called Uprev and checked with them for the best way to do it, and they recommended just setting the rev limit at 1k. Personally, I wouldn't want it set at zero, because there are rare instances when I do want to leave the car running at idle, but need to walk away. In fact, just this morning on my way to the gym I stopped off at a bank machine. It was nice to be able to just pull up next to the machine, load the anti-theft map, and go use the bank machine real quick. It was 5am and nobody was around. But if someone jumped in and tried to drive off, they wouldn't have been able to. Or maybe if you live in a cold area and want to warm up your car in the driveway, you could load the anti-theft map and go back inside and finish your coffee without having to worry. You could and should lock your door if you do that, of course. But it's still nice to know that if some jerk saw your car sitting there idling in the driveway and smashed the window to get in and drive off. D'oh! Surprise! The motor's running but you can't go anywhere!

When I had my Subaru w/ AccessPort I dropped it off at discount tire, switched to the valet map and walked across the street for lunch. When I returned the manager approached me to advise that he took my car for a road test and it would not rev past 2750 rpm. He was very sorry and apologetic because they do not usually do road tests after an electronic balance. So I called him on it and asked if he just wanted to take my car for a joy ride. He admitted his lapse in judgment and offered me a 25% discount. I gladly took him up on his offer, switched maps, revved to about 7K and drove away.

No. It just bounces against the limiter. So it might not work too well with warming up the car (unless you set it at, say, 1500 rpm).
