i nominate you! :ugh2:

Yeah I would scan it to be safe, but it seems like it went in to limp mode.

Regardless driving the car would be fine, nothing that would need a tow.

It makes it so you cannot rev it high, but 2500 should be enough to drive it around.

had this happen to me once out of the blue, freaked me out since I had less that 2000 miles on her at the time. Turned off the motor and restarted and it went away and didn't happen again...for now.

I can def relate to that. Thank you for posting this. I did the almost the same thing. I kinda punched the gas pretty quick thinking I was in 1st but I was really in 2nd. Any issues afterward?

No issues at all. Never noticed any different after that.

why would the car hit limp mode if starting from a wrong gear? what's the purpose that would make the engineers program such a feature?

WShade 12-14-2009 11:07 PM

Its not a programmed feature.

Ok.. just got done driving the car for more than half an hour. I made a new friend and it's the Rev Limiter ;). I took the car to 7000+ RPM few times, quick downshift 5-4-3, thrashed it around and EVERYTHING is FINE! It's running perfectly.

I have no clue why this happened. Looks like few others has encountered the same problem. For some, it's solved by shutting the car off and restarting. For me, it was putting the car in reverse (which makes me lean more convinced that my issue was a gear/clutch issue).

Good thing is car is running 100% with no issues!

Glad to hear everything is running normally, AK.

As someone else commented, I would have the dealer check the codes to see if anything comes up. Otherwise, drive, baby, drive. :driving:

Moral of the story: The more electronics that get engineered into a vehicle, the more unexplained "it was a vibrantly shaky gluck-gluck-gluck noise" issues to be had. :ugh2:

DIGItonium 12-15-2009 07:45 AM

Sounds good you didn't have anymore issues... but something that may be related.

Is anyone hearing 3 clacking sounds on startup as if it is coming from the clutch? It's sorta like the sound when you're about to bog down your car, but this is with engine start.

Might explain also why 7AT owners haven't had this happen?

I do this fairly often, no clunking or issues.

It almost sounds like the ECU lost track of one of the sensors, like the camshaft height position sensor, and decided to completely shut down VVEL. If that was the case I would have totally expected that to throw a code and trigger the CEL.

Forrest 12-15-2009 09:59 AM

there is a valet mode?

Gamedog 12-15-2009 10:00 AM

This has happened to me and a few other G37's in the past. Happened to me when I was backing up out of a driveway, put in in 1st, and didnt give it enough gas and stalled the car. Started it back up and realized I had about 25% throttle available and couldnt get passed 2500 rpms. Turned it off for about 30 seconds and it started back up and ran fine.

My guess is that its an ecu glitch that happens or something. Happened about a year and a half ago and hasnt happened since. I wouldnt call it "limp mode". I've hit limp mode before during a canyon run and that happens at higher rpms/higher oil temps.
