like limp mode?

WShade 12-14-2009 02:18 PM

Yes, exactly.

kenchan 12-14-2009 02:21 PM

if so, shut off the engine and restart, no?

Pharmacist 12-14-2009 02:38 PM

go to the dealer and have them scan for error codes. it could be a sensor failing or something causing some kind of engine protection mode.

AK said he tried that and it didn't fix the problem.

That's pretty scary, so whatever that clunk was in 2nd gear caused the car to behave weird? Did you try turning SRM off?

It was like a clunk/weird clutch release noise. Def distinctive. I didn't try the SRM off. It is scary. I am scared to open up my RPM now. I'll keep it calm today as I have to go somewhere. Tomorrow, I'll be doing some Wide Open Throttle runs :) and let you guys know if everything is okay or no.

ECU enabled Limp Mode, but who knows what caused it...Probably a glitch.

Scary... so is this an excuse to switch to Redline? :) There are a couple of things I notice with the 370Z compared to the 350Z. The clunk is definitely there, but not as bad. I'm under 8k miles, and the clunk and notch is not as bad. The noise is still there. I was being dumb one day giving it too much gas while feathering 2nd (climbing), and the clutch started to shudder in 1st gear for a couple of days before going away.

Let's hope it's not something bad like being stuck in gear even though the stick is in neutral.

not sure if you guys get winterized gas in your area, but this time of year with the winterized gas and drier colder air, the car sometimes acts funny (ecu).

sometimes acts even funnier if you have aftermarket bits...

i had that same thing happen to me pulling out of a parking lot a work...

every stop light i came to i turned off the car then started it again, don know if that corrected it but after the third time of restarting the rpm issue misteriously went away, and z ran normally after that...

this happened very shortly after i put the takedas on so i always associated it with the ecu relearning the sri...

I think you hit limp mode by starting from a dead stop in other gears instead of 1st. Why I know this? Because it happens to me before, on the G37.

Long story short, backing out of the parking lot, I accidentally put the car in 6th gear instead of reverse (stupid me, I thought I pressed down enough on the shifter to get over to reverse. Fist time driving the G37 doesn't help.) It made the same sound as you describe. I noticed it right away and put it back in reverse. After, I could not get the rpm over 2.5k no matter what gear I was in. This scared me. I turned it off and start right back up again, but that didn't help. So, I turned it off and left it off for a little longer, then turned it back on again. Problem solved.

I can def relate to that. Thank you for posting this. I did the almost the same thing. I kinda punched the gas pretty quick thinking I was in 1st but I was really in 2nd. Any issues afterward?

I see a common denominator. The car will not allow you to over rev in a higher gear from a stop and smoke the clutch. Case closed ;) Now its time for someone to go out and try it to disprove the theory. Any takers?
