You get what you pay for. I picked up a used TWM short shifter for under $100 from someone on the forum

I luv it, people are willing to drop 25-30k on a car then ask what the cheapest is of a certain product they can put on their car...

I hope you know that the majority of people are financing the car right..not many people can shell out 30k on a car. If I could, trust me, you wouldn't see me on these forums

90% chance you'll end up having to mod it or put up with some quirks or some ****.

$233 for the B&M on summit really isn't a bad deal?

Either that or you buy the $48 one and be the guinea pig.

I looked at several shifters before picking up the TWM. You'll also notice the TWM has a bearing at the bottom whereas most of them have a bushing.

If you plan on running an aftermarket shift knob and order from TWM, you may ask them if you can get an extra one of those black pieces that's supposed to hold the boot up. It makes a very nice finishing piece on top:

I ended up using washers underneath to hold the boot up, but had I known I would have asked about getting an extra part from them ahead of time.

Now I am using a Voodoo shift knob. Those are reasonably priced and the correct thread. I thought the TWM shift knobs, and some of the other shift knob prices I see out there are ridiculously priced.

I looked at the B&M, and what I didn't like about this was you have to file the shifter casting. This is a part that is not sold separately by the dealer. So if you mess it up you have a problem.

I get that it's not that hard and may just be some trial and error to make sure you have just enough so reverse works, but seriously? Why are they the only one that require this?

i suggest you check out shorter weighted knobs first. ive done short shifters/bushings on previous cars so i know what benefits they offer. but the Z, nah. no need.

Too many people having to get synchro's replaced with a stock shifter for me to contemplate a short shifter...
I do plan on changing the knob eventually to improve the shifter with weight and a shorter height on the knob itself. But honestly, it's not my primary concern.
Didn't I read that short shifters work kinda crappy on these cars?...then if you buy a crappy one thats a double crap....
Yep I did read they are crappy ...just two of many quotes above.

Sounds like the words of someone with a life plan to be perpetually broke. Since a car is a depreciating asset you essentially agree to pay interest(or overpay and get zero interest) for something that is concurrently losing money. So again no thanks on mirroring the "majority".

I'd disagree, I'd say money well spent. Since day one, I've always never cared for the way the car shifted. The TWM shifted definitely helped this. I'd do it again. I think lot of people who make these claims have not tried one on the 370.

Interesting, most claim crappy ...so you have had no syncro issues and the shifts are smooth as glass? How long have you had it on your car....?

OP if you have a 2016 I am also guessing if you have warranty left and if you claim trans or clutch issues with a short shifter on...the repair cost will be all on you....dealers will find any reason. Just a thought...

Smooth as glass? No, it's not magic. Nothing will make these cars shift like that. More precise, yes. It definitely helped. I've always had/built Mustangs, which have much smoother shifting transmissions (Also helps T5 parts are easily obtainable, and easily rebuilt). The 370Z is my daily driver, I put the shifter in back in January (My car is also a 2016).

What does the shifter have to do with the clutch? I've also never really gotten the synchro argument either? Is the thought you'll be shifting so fast that you'll wear out the synchros quicker (you aren't speed shifting all the time)? Easy enough to throw the stock shifter back in if you started to have a problem. Either way both the clutch and synchros are most likely going to be consider a wear item right? Maybe I'll eat crow later on this one, but I've rebuilt a lot several manual transmission in my garage, if something happens, I'll most likely be the one fixing it anyways.

TWM ftw! I have their short shifter and their competition long knob. I have been rocking it for almost for years without any issues. I tried the heavy knob and it didn't work for me as well as the tall knob and short shifter.

Don't cheap out on parts you will f up your car and you will end up spending three times the money you were trying to save. If can't afford to do it right don't at all! Take it from a guy that has bought and re-bought thousands of dollars in parts and labor.
